I practice civil lit. Like my fellow and soon to be brothers/sisters AT law .... corporate law and intellectual property law would be great for this although you'd probably need to practice some years before specialising exclusively.

JR1, try contacting http://www.own-it.org/ - while not specifically fashion they help most creative types and provide a lot of really good information. They are based in London and work with a number of firms that specialise in IP law.

Interesting.

Law is also something I'd like to pursue in the future.

Most laywers don't become one of those Ally McBeal types - check it - http://jdjive.com

All the best.

Questions on career path to Law School. PLEASE HELP.
Questions on career path to Law School. PLEASE HELP.

A friend of mine is looking to go into Fashion Law. She wants to know what law schools are best known for that. She knows and is looking for schools with Intellectual Property law. Schools she's looking at are in NYC: NYU, Columbia, Cordoza, and in LA: Southwestern, Loyola, UCLA and USC.

She is graduating soon with an art degree wants to go to Parsons or Otis to do 1 year program in fashion to gain some knowledge on Fashion before going to law school. She wants a good understanding of how the industry works, design wise and business wise.

Also, she wants to know what people recommend in getting to a top position in that field.

She has done a lot of research and hopes someone on here might give her some extra information on this field and what her best career decisions should be.

i think the best way to be a lawyer within the fashion field is to become a customs lawyer. these kind of lawyers represent big fashion houses.

If you're interested, I know the name of the law firm in Los Angeles who represents up-and-coming designers such as Louis Verdad. They practice almost exclusively in IP. I know Verdad's attorney too. I'll find his business card and get back to you. You could contact him, and set up a meeting to pick his brain on the subject.

I'm also interested in fashion law and facinated with IP.

Ahh, well I can help with what law schools are best for IP. Tied for number one is George Washington in DC and Berkeley in CA. UCLA,Santa Clara, Franklin Pierce, Southwestern School of Law, University of Ottawa, Baltimore School of Law and Suffolk are all schools with top notch concentrations in IP. But there are plenty of excellent law schools that can be great no matter what. Use princetonreview.com to help start your law school search. You can create a search based on what concentration you want, size, cost, location, etc. Its a good starting point to help swim the ocean of law schools.

When I saw this thread I was so happy. I'm applying to go to law school in 1 month and I will know where in about 6. I am working at a corporate firm right now and studying for the LSATs. I wanted to work in the field of immigration as well as work for celebrities and in the fashion industry. That interests me a lot. I don't know if I'm such a fan of IP, but customs sounds interesting.
