I just finished the Dec 2006 LSAT yesterday. 4 hours of pure hell. I passed out in the evening.

^ UGH Congrats on being done! Isn't it such a b*tch? I took mine in September. Have fun waiting for your score too...
Legaldiva, where do you go to school? Do you like it? I just finished my apps but don't really know much about any of the schools I applied to.

For anyone who has a law degree who now works in the fashion industry, what is your story? How did you get into the fashion industry and what type of work do you do? I currently working for an IP firm, and am interested in possible transitioning into the fashion industry down the road, whether it is on the business side or the legal side.

Back after a long hiatus...

I work in the fashion industry, the production side, 27 years now. Seems like only yesterday ~sigh~

Impo, IP/Fashion law will dramatically escalate -more than it already has; I've been watching the uptick over the past ...oh... two to three years? (I got boots on the ground). In fact, I predict a critical shortage of qualified attorneys within the next five to ten years. If you're thinking of getting into it, the time to move is now. I'm selling more books (on fashion manufacturing) to attorneys and law firms than ever, definitely more pronounced within the last year.

Suggested prep (undergrad): Background in fashion merchandising or manufacturing wouldn't hurt, a summer spent interning in a plant or design room could suffice if you could swing it. An engineering degree tho, would be the most useful; you could pretty much name your fees.

I was just wondering if you could elaborate on your opinion that IP-related fashion law will escalate in the near future.

I'm currently working for an IP firm that handles all aspects of IP (from patents to trademark to copyright, etc.). Because I have a technical background (electrical engineering), I've basically been put in the patent group. But, I want to eventually work in the the fashion/entertainment group. I was just wondering how you see fashion and IP coming together in the future, and how I might be able to position myself to take advantage of it when it happens.

Thanks...

Because patents have to do with inventions, technology, etc.

I'm about a year out (practicing for a year, plus a year long clinical internship representing clients thru the public defender) ... I'm not in fashion law, but intl humanitarian law. We just had a huge filing and the whole time I thought: law school had me totally unprepared for the stress/lack of sleep/incredible demands, etc. of practice (for my particular job).

After that, I can't believe I ever stressed about a silly contracts exam EVER. And I literally pulled an all-nighter for my advanced evidence exam. I miss those days ...

I went to a small private law school (nowhere near an Ivy), and I still somehow managed to get my dream job working on a high profile human rights case internationally. You can do whatever you set your mind to regardless of the profession. I'm living proof of that.
