My interview for Fashion Journalism was literally 2 minutes long. The interviewer was super nice and chatty. She let me know I was accepted and got the letter for it 3 weeks later. So I think just be relaxed, and honest, and you should do fine!

It can be very expensive

Where are you from? And would you be needing a loan to cover tuition & accommodation?

I'm in the same boat

Unless you can find cheap accommodation and/or get the grant maybe the best option would be to take some time out, work full-time & save save save? If you are able to do that of course..

Please guys, do not let my experience put you off. I think MA degrees are different to BA degrees in the terms of treatment, teaching, etc. Although, I do stand by my belief that when a university gets a 'name' for itself the institution starts to care less about their students.

I didn't go onto my course, for many reasons, but one of them was financing. Being an international student I had to pay inflated fees and that PLUS the cost of living in London would have been too much. I honestly don't think it's so bad when you have to pay 3k plus living. Get a loan and a part time job and you should be fine. I understand the frustration with the loan system since the same thing happened to me. It was only once I was declared an independent student (I had been out of highschool a certain length of time) that I finally got money. And even considering that, my mum pays my rent

nottingham trent? they're meant to be alright for textiles and knitting

i don't think university of aberdeen do fashion? do you mean robert gordon? they've got a good arts department and in quite beautiful surroundings. my mum was a student there. lots of drunken nights to be had

i'm not even sure where keele is...

what were your other 3 options though?

Thanks-
next year westminster are starting a specific fashion buying course which i reckon would be split between the media arts and design school and the buisiness school

ravensbourne do promotion but you have to get onto the fashion design course (you then specialise in womenswear, menswear, textiles or promotion)

marangoni is incredibly overpriced for the teaching you get. it's pretty and has a fancy name but the london campus isn't meant to be all that

You can survive london on a loan!! you get more than the rest of the country anyway. I survive on a basic loan with a part time job and my parents pay my rent. That includes my magazine addiction, £93 monthly travelcard (zones 1-4), materials, food, bills AND a social life. if you can't afford to live near centre, don't. commute. several of the colleges are in zones 2-4. and if your parents can't afford to top up your loan then in theory you'd be getting more than basic, even if you don't get a full grant, and many universities offer other ways of financial support AND we can show people round the uni for £20 a pop!

- No, InnocentFairy, I think it's good that you are honest with yourself and have the strength withdraw from the course! Best of luck to you and let us know how it goes

- Yeah, the only reason that I'm able to study in London is because I'm an EU-student and would pay the home fees.
But in Sweden you get to study for free. Bah so annoying! Oh well..

- Meg and Bankokdoll: Thanks, it really helps to hear that! I'm soo nervous about the whole thing. Besides it was my only uni choice so.. um.. no plan B

for anyone who's studying a BA in Buying at LCF-

I have applied to an access course, and I was wondering if it is possible to go straight from an access course to a BA??

I already have 2A levels in business.......not very good ones....but thats why i want to do the access course.

I just dont want to spend a year doing the access course and then find out I have to do a foundaion course before i can go on to a BA.
