New York, NY (CNS) - Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has topped the list of New York's most powerful names in fashion, as compiled by New York Daily News. Sarah Jessica Parker also made the list.
As per the tabloid, there's "no one is fashion as influential as the fearsomely smart, British-born editor." Wintour, 58, is believed to be the inspiration behind Meryl Streep's character, Miranda Priestly, in the novel-turned-film "Devil Wears Prada."
Also making the list are "Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker at number 43 and the show's stylist Patricia Field at number 22.
Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen has beaten out her peers in the catwalk as she settles at the fourth place, just one place above New York's mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Some spots on the list are occupied by a duo or a threesome, such as in the cases of Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington - "the original supes" - at #38, and Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Franciso Costa for Calvin Klein - the "holy trinity of American sportswear." Designers Carolina Herrera and Oscar dela Renta also share a spot at number 14.
The "Project Runway" reality series team, including Tim Gunn and Michael Kors also made the list at 41.

Hmmmm... I thought this list was a bit weird, but interesting nonetheless. I mean Patrick Robinson - I really liked what he did at Perry Ellis, Paco Rabanne and all, but he just started at Gap and it hasn't been enough time to see how it's doing yet, and with all these problems with Gap in the past, I'm not sure if he's worthy right now to be considered in the number 2 spot.

Probably because the Gap and it's subsidiaries serve such a huge customer base across the whole country. I don't know this for a fact, but they are probably the largest retailer of clothing in the U.S. ... so that would make him pretty powerful ... only because he has that position at this time. True ... he has not proven himself yet ... but he's still got the GAP behind him.

yeah but that goes under the assumption that he makes all the decisions at Gap....I wouldn't be surprised if he was a bit hamstrung there....

I don't understand how a lawyer and a colorist are above Pat Field though....Pat Field should be in the top 10 at least....a lot of this is just crazy

I'd also think that Ralph Lauren would have deserved a higher placing, and that Gisele's rank should have taken down a few notches!

And maybe I'm really out of the loop with this, but how is the eBay style director more powerful than Simon Doonan? And they completely missed out on other people like Julie Gilhart who I think is more deserving to be on that list than quite a few other people there.

Interestingly as well, Zara has recently overtaken Gap as the largest clothing retailer in the world.

really? i thought inditex is the arch rival of H&M all the time...

Re: Patrick Robinson: I don't know how they decided he's #2, but even in my dad's non-fashion-whatsoever business magazines, I have read articles about how he's running the business and changing the way GAP works and and the different design teams work together and how they work with even store managers for feedback and such now. I think it hasn't been long enough to call it, but it sounded like good changes from what I read from a business standpoint and conceptual standpoint anyway, like more unity among lines, things you can mix together more easily, less focus on trend and fast-fashion, refocusing on consistent quality and sizing, etc.
