sidenote by me...I have to tell you what happened to us the last night in Paris. We went to bed early and later some models came in that were staying at the apartment for the weekend. Michelle was out of town so they started partying till all hours. We knew we had to get up early so we shut our door and went to sleep. I woke up the next morning and walked into the living room. All the candles in the sconces on the wall had been left burning all night. The wall was scorched and there was candle wax all over Michelle's leather furniture. If the candles had not burned down to the bottom of the wick...I'm not sure if we would have been here today.....Viva La Paris!

old real old... As I told you it was in the older part of Paris. We were on the 3rd floor of a walk-up. We had one room and use of the kitchen and bathroom. Michelle our landlady rented rooms out to the models from Ford. Two twin beds no chest of drawers...our clothes were hanging on nails on the walls.

Do you know Blanche street?across from the Moulin Rouge?

cant wait for more installments, please say there are more!
Im currently a little bit younger than ali here and have recently been approached by a great agency. I understand how demanding it can be on young models but i am aware of this and highly doubt my success anyway.
Im curious though, how did your family cope back home with you not being around (or was ali an only child) because i have younger siblings who find it hard when mum isnt around. i would feel very guilty for mum to have to escourt me to jobs. Should i wait until i am older or start building up my book now? I know age has become less of an issue these days though.

Ali was like a kid with a toy dangling in front of it. She had all these dreams and according to her agent, all of it was attainable if she went to Paris. Do you really think I would have taken her half way around the world away from her friends and family if just one person had said it's all a gamble? I know...I'm the adult and should have researched all of this before buying into it. I blame myself for not being more in tune to what was going on with Ali. We had a long talk before we went about how hard it was going to be,moneywise and emotionally and I told her it was her decision....when it should have been mine. I'm not this stage mom who wanted all the limelight, I just wanted for Ali to have all the things I couldn't give her.....unfortuately we went for all the wrong reasons.
Ali was right, I loved Paris even on a poor mans budget I saw a lot. She read all of this last night and we laughed about all the crazy situations we found ourselves in....but she wasn't laughing then.
We never saw a dime from any of her jobs. I guess it was all swallowed up in agency fees. When we went to NY she had a negative balance. I took care of our rent, food and travel expenses and came home $3,000 dollars in debt

Three months later she wanted to go to New York.

Ali has two older sisters that adore her. They would support her no matter what she wanted to do, They were 10 and twelve when she was born and every time I told her no, they were there to say yes. Ali's Dad was a different story...he loves her a lot but has never been too keen on the modeling....that is until she made enough money to buy her horses,a truck and her trailer.

Here's another one we came up with that I think is one of the most important things for any mom of a model to read BEFORE she buys into all this.

Beautiful, she reminds me of Karolina Kurkova there a lot !

Your and your daughters story is unbelievable interesting and I (and I think everybody else here as well) really appreciate that you invest all the time in posting it here.
Even though Im aware of the fact that it must have been really hard for you and your daughter and that there are even cases where it's worse, I stil want to experience this so, so bad, I dont even need to be on the cover or runways of some über-famous magazines/designers, I just want to have the chance to find my way to casting, open calls etc. in an unknow city like Paris on my own.

This is the most honest model story I've ever read. In the interviews, all the models say that they "love travelling and meeting new people" but it doesn't sound that much fun or honest having this in mind.

They should have stamped that quote on Ali's forehead....because we turned around and did it again.
