truth of the matter is, I'm wondering if it is actually worth it paying for a name like Parsons or FIT, in terms of teachers, education and the people that you meet and the internships. I mean branding for clothes is one thing, but is it actually worth paying for that?

^^Same here. I sent in my deposit to Parsons, took out loans and everything but ended up cancelling because I got scared about the cost.

I understood what you said...but you're misunderstanding what I have known and seen from experience, that it's not that easy. Even with all the connections in the world, if there is no job opening, you're not getting one. Also, alot of the big names hire from within before they even think of hiring from the outside...

What alot of people may not have had the experience to realize is that talent is one thing, but the most important thing companies look for and unfortunately, colleges stress, is the ability to blend in and work under conditioned environments.

Alot of people come into fashion thinking," Oh, I'll just go to school, become really talented and people will just buy my final collection and I'll get all this money or I'll be the darling of the fashion world. Or worse comes to worse, I'll just be so talented that I'll have employers just begging and making room for me to work for them."

THAT does not happen!! Even talented people can't even get a job. I have seen it and experienced it. It really boils down to how well you can play the game. Fashion is more competitive and more protective than you can ever imagine. Trust me on this.

First of all, if your coming from NJ, Parsons and FIT will not be the same price. Parsons will come up to around 50K a year, while FIT will be around 25K. Big difference.

Second of all, I have to agree with Educo on the fact that just because you graduate from an "amazing" fashion school, dosen't guarantee you a job in the industry just like that.

It's all about the work you put into it, and how educated you are about the industry and it's standards. It's constantly changing, and you have to be adaptive to that. I'm going to F.I.T right now, and not for a single second do I think that I'll be guaranteed a job, much less a future just from graduating. There are many people who don't even graduate at all, but then again there are those who do and get great careers out of it. You just have to know where you stand, and work hard from day one. I don't want to make it sound like no one gets a job out of college, because many do, but you just have to work towards it.

Good Luck.

Let's just say that having parsons on your resume gets some doors open for you.

It was but it wasn't worth the money. This is just from my personal experience. I have been to both FIT and Parsons so I can definitely gauge the difference between the two.

There are many things that parsons lack that FIT makes up for BIG TIME.

FIT facilities are AMAZING compared to Parsons and students there have access to the museum archives which Parson's student do not. At Parson's you have access to the NYU library and Cooper Union and free entrance at MOMA, you know stuff like that.

Parsons is good for design theory and all of that, but you do get rushed in the technical aspect of fashion. because of that, i was very glad that I went to FIT before I went to Parsons as I had learned all the technical stuff there.

And if you guys didn't know, alot of the teachers at Parsons also teach at FIT. We had a lecture one time on draping and the visiting lecturer was my old teacher from FIT. We had a long discussion on the differences between both schools.

If you have money to burn or can get alot of aid and scholarships, go to Parsons, but keep on top of your sh*t by taking some extra summer classes or Winterim classes at FIT and see if you can transfer them over.

Also, another tip: if you take more than 12 credits, the price stays the same. meaning if you take 8 classes, at two credits each, you're only paying for 6 classes, so in essence you get two classes for free.

Any amount of credits above 12 gets charged as 12 credits.

12 credits is major but one semester i did 15 because of some stupid admin glitch and paid the same price.
