I am a small boutique owner who designs and creates unique pieces.
My business has remained small, but I am always creating many designs and I can't really produce them. I have no college degree or fashion industry background, but I read the best way to get a job with a fashion house was to send in designs.
I've been looking at quie a few fashion houses online, and after reading their policies, I've learned that if I send my portfolio in, they can use the ideas without credit ect.
Now, question- What is the best way to protect my work when trying to get work in a fashion house?
The only way I can think of is to bring your portfolio in person and not let the interviewer copy it (even if they persist that they just want to make a few copies, don't let them or the copies become theirs--and out of your control). If you let them have a copy of your work, then it makes it extremely easy for them to copy the ideas. Whereas a quick glance, doesn't give them much chance to copy it.
