Style Directors vs. Fashion Directors : What is the difference?
Would someone please explain both job profiles to me? They seem to overlap a lot!
Thanks |

Although I don't know the answer, I suspect that it's like so many other titles in the fashion/magazine world ... just a title, not a real job description. For example, an Editor-at-Large can be a freelance contributing writer or a full time employee who may not actually write anything at all, but is more of a producer. A Fashion Editor is a stylist ... most of the time, but not always ... sometimes they are more of an art director/ real editor/producer working with the stylists. I think it varies from magazine to magazine ... depending on what titles someone in management likes.
That may be why you are not getting answers ... because no one really knows the difference ... maybe there is no difference. Or ... if you look at the semantics and go strictly by that ... a Style Director would be in charge of all style which would include fashion plus other things like home decor, gardens, entertaining ... whereas Fashion Director would be focused only on fashion. My best guess. |

Good question. I would presume one is production-oriented while the other is design-oriented. In other words, I would expect a Style Director to assemble wardrobes for shoots or or consult on style/fit during a product development session. A Fashion Director, I would presume to be someone who assembles wardrobes or consults on sketch development.
