Since this thread is an invitation for photographers to post their own work ... we will assume that the credit is yours. So you don't have to post a credit ..... but you certainly may do so and use your own name and post a link to your own work, if you'd like to.

Thanks for sharing ... I find the lighting very interesting in this shot ... it caught my eye.

Although you should give credit to the model and makeup artists and anyone else involved.

Just starting out and trying to learn as much as I can, so feedback is really appreciated I would love to work as a stylist in the future, but for now, I can't afford to work with professionals, so I have to do the hair, make-up and photography myself. It's fun though and I don't see it as work.

Okay! Well since this place is about feedback, I'll go ahead with some constructive criticism.

First of all when you are shooting, you really have to pay attention to the whole scene what is actually in the picture. To make sure you don't have distracting elements. In many of your shots you have a lot of other distracting elements such as trash, weird metal things, sticks, stuff and graffeti. All these things create a sort of visual 'noise' that detracts from the viewers ability to understand visually what they are looking at.

Number two, is the model. Always shoot the best model you can possibly find. Especially if you are shooting for yourself. Be picky. Models are not good just because they are models. Most models are generally pretty bad for portfolio work.

Makeup and hair: Get some! :-)

Styling: hmmm. Stylists do indeed help life, but it's more than that. You need to develop a sense of style. You don't really always need a stylist to put together something stylish. You need to develop your own sense of style so as to know a) what is style, b) what is fashion c) what looks bad in pictures d)when the stylist has no clue e) how to shoot the clothing.
Fashion photography is about the clothing in the end. It's got to be good. (this is however, easy to say. Much harder to implement)

Don't use fill flash, for now. Concentrate on capturing the light that is already there.

Emotion: Learn how to connect with the camera, model, light, situation. You are obviously in beautiful location, so learn to work with it. Learn when the light is good (sunset) and where it looks good. Learn to look into the models eyes and figure out who they are. Play with them, flirt with them, tease them, provoke them. Without emotion, images are flat and your creativity is seriously limited.

Light: This takes practice. Study online other peoples light, (daylight) learn to see the shadows, how they fall on a face. How the skin changes at different angles.

Enjoy!

dianabobar - i have to agree with much of what hideyho said regarding your photos - they're beautiful, but still need that extra je ne sais quoi to make them really, really stand out as amazing fashion shots.

that being said, i LOVE the second group of images. i love the simplicity of them.

I do have to thank you a lot, because this is where I learn from. I come from a little town in Romania, I study painting in a bigger city here, but not in the capital (Bucharest), so I am not really surrounded by people who actually work in the fashion industry. I have this dream, of being surrounded by clothes and stories and beauty, I just love fashion a lot but unfortunately this is the only way i can learn something: by trying. You have to understand that I can't afford professional hair and make-up (and don't even know anybody even slightly related to fashion, have no hairstylist friends, nor make-up artists); all the clothes and accessories are my own, I love styling more than photography itself, but as I can't afford to hire a photographer to do the work for me, I have to learn and do it on my own. I am working so hard with what I have (which is so little) and try to learn from each and every critique I get, so that when i finally do something good, I can be proud of it and remember where i started at. All i know is from reading/seeing it online, from this forum, the most help I get is from experienced people like you, telling me their opinion. I accept everything, I really ask for negative comments, so that I know what my weak points are, to improve them. I really like doing this and who knows, maybe someday I will be a small part of a great team creating amazing fantasies that girls see in magazines. All I can do now is not lose my faith and work harder and harder...
Anyway, if you made it through until now: thank you very much for your attention. Here are some photos I took (the girl modeling is my friend and it's her first photo shoot, so i really had to give directions). Anyways, feedback IS appreciated Thank you!

i really, really love that group of work - i think it's much stronger than the first bit you posted. the story is concise and INTERESTING which is what is very important in this work!

i just wanted to mention to you that spending a ton of money on hair and makeup is NOT the point of starting out. i spend NO money on that sort of stuff and oftentimes do the styling myself, and i've won a very prestigious fashion photography competition regardless. find your OWN style, vision, and go from there. money isn't what makes someone a great fashion photographer. i can see that you have a good eye, just cultivate that and work on it and it will come. find friends of yours who are creative with their makeup or hair and get them to help you out for a bottle of wine or something. build on your talent, the rest will come!

now, i can't remember if i posted this group of work before? i shot it for pretty pretty and it should be up soon.
