Oooh thank you Anna for this thread, and thank you luxmode for the gorgeous photos of her in her fabulous room! She's one of my greatest style inspirations ever. I've been doing the extended black eyeliner thing for at least 15 years that it's become almost my trademark, I had even forgotten she had first inspired it! :p

Who else can look so badass and elegant in a frilly frock? What is it about her that makes a pilled gray sweater, frumpy skirt, or dolly dress so deliciously scandalous?

I was so moved by one recent photo of her. I guess at least in her sixties now, she had aged so naturally: no makeup except that black eyeliner, no jewelry, wearing just a simple Indian tunic of mauve gauze...but most of all, her whole-hearted smile was such that only one who has lived true to her spirit can radiate.

I couldn't find that photo, but here is another one of her in 2001, also quite touching:

Thanks for the pics, luxmode! I especially like the one of her in her apt -- it smacks of personal touch. I love how everything looks a little haphazard, but well used.

Roberta Myers, editor in chief of Elle, was making a point about the purposeful banality and frivolousness of fashion magazines, and told a great story about interviewing Reagan's Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger, at the height of the Iran-contra scandal... and spending the whole time shooting it about his interior decorating. A truly dedicated liberal would be offended, but that had me in fits. <g>

I'm partial to your description of her, Melisande -- "badass and elegant in a frilly frock." I'd say there's a healthy contingent of tFSers devoted to that very same thing. Welcome to tFS, doll.

These pics of Zooey Deschanel in the June Elle remind me of Miss AK --- sure, it's mostly that extended black eyeliner, but the cheeks, and the half smiles? Well, there's no comparison yet but hopefully Zooey will grow into her style-sake, and maybe even her namesake. <g>

Aww, Czilla, thank you ! You're the first one to actually welcome me here, yay! (Hugs) ...and I feel you, I am also too far from San Francisco...sigh...but determined to make it back there as soon as I can.

I like the Zooey photos too, thanks! Did you notice how it says "Odile" on the tissue box or whatever it is?? A sly little tribute to AK!

Wow, I REALLY like Anna's "haphazard" room...the more I look at it, the more it feels as if I've been living there for years. What is that confession-box/carriage looking thing on the right...or am I missing something?

I've just found this link about Anna and her appearance at La Rochelle Film Festival, where she sung with Katerine.

And I've scanned this.

..why do polly and sommanbule only post here when they could make the entire forum a hundred times better?

Thank you Travolta and Polly! Beautiful! Thanks for the article Polly; I'm glad to hear she is still performing and doing movies. As with Jane Birkin, there's nothing more gorgeous than to see a mature woman un-retouched, lines and all, laughing wholeheartedly without a care in the world.

Maybe because of their colouring is similar (physical colouring, hair etc.) and both groups are 2 guys and 1 girl.
Hmm.. just my thoughts.. out loud..
