i love edie... i remember being fascinated by her when i was like 10 years old, just through photos i had seen
but then when i started researching about her, i was intrigued even more...she seemed like such a lost soul, but someone who just wanted to connect with someone. but every one she loved turned their backs on her... it was so unfortunate that she died young, i would have loved to see what she would have done with her life...

I read Edie's bio on imdb -http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0781291/bio
and my reaction was nearly complete shock and intrigue. Every single rumor that I've read about this beautiful icon was included in that article. The rumor that she hung out with bikers for heroin was included. It was so detailed that I questioned what was real and what was fiction. One impression that the bio on imdb left me with was that she led an even harder life than I thought. Every moment she was either hospitalized or drugged up and trying to become famous. Trying to be that superstar of 65' again and her last night alive at the fashion show that starred Edith Beale from Grey Gardens was so unfortunate. She seemed to be for a long time on the edge of death and by 71' her body had been through too much that it gave out. I still wished she was alive today and getting a real taste of normalcy in her life but she died so young and still beautiful in my eyes. |

Another thing about Edie that I realized was that she suffered from by bipolar disorder. I read a few pages off Google from the book An American Girl and there was a paragraph from a chapter with an old classmate of Edie describing how she once was very popular and lovely to be around then one day her mood changed from irrational to happy on a few occasions. Also the bio on imdb saying that she hung out with a few men that eventually left her because of how irrational her behavior was including the overwhelming drug abuse.

I'm well aware that the bio was written by a regular person and what was written wasn't completely truthful, its just that I've heard of these rumors of her here and there and wanted to compare the two. As I stated before that after reading it I couldn't tell fact from fiction. I do believe she was bipolar not just on the basis of what some person said on imdb. I can't recall exactly where I read about her irrational behavior and outbursts at the moment aside from reading it from a book or bio on imdb. The bio on imdb says she was a lot to handle yet before I've read that she was in deed far too much to handle as well. Perhaps it may have been the drugs but reading what an old friend of hers said in the bio of Edie An American Girl made me think her fall from grace in school with displays of mood swings might have been caused by an undiagnosed bipolar disorder in her younger years as a teen.
I read her father wanted to put her away because of how increasingly difficult Edie was yet in the bio it claims that Edie caught her father with another woman and decided to put her away in case if she told her mother about what she saw. I don't know what to believe Whether I am right or wrong about the possibility of her suffering from bipolar disorder, we both can say honestly that her behavior around people as a young adult was a result of massive drug intake starting from her stint at the Factory. |

I also think that kind of behaviour is very common among extremely extroverted types like Edie. They usually have dramatic highs and lows and act basically the same around everyone, which gives others the impression of being closer and more liked than they really are. People who are much less outgoing usually find people like Edie really exhausting, which is why it's not surprising that many men who knew her would have tired of her behaviour after a while.

SusanSuperstar, that pic you posted is one that I've recolored. you can find a larger version in the back pages of the old edie thread. I'm too lazy to dig for it.
![]() I agree with the whole junior high thing. Almost all girls go through phases of being moody in middle school, I think that is reading in a little too much. Although she supposedly did have a very strong personality... It would be nice if that book had new pics! |

the other day I purchased the book 'Edie' by Jean Stein and started reading it this morning, just a couple of chapters mostly the ones pertaining to Edie. My impression of Edie was that she had a tendency to be moody from a very young age and was extremely spoiled, vibrant, free spirited and difficult mostly because of the drugs she took.
