Well mostly because they fall in love with French men .Charlotte Rampling was Jean-Michel Jarre's wife for a long time and Kristin Scott-Thomas is married to a French obstetrician , same for Jane actually...

Bah, haha, I don't think that Jean-Michel Jarre represents French men , or is the epitome of French men in any case. I can't stand him either but I guess that a lot of people wouldn't understand how someone like Serge Gainsbourg had a relationship with women like Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin , Bambou and other beautiful women. I like some French male stars , just as much as I like other stars from any other country...

There's actually an article in a recent 'Gala' issue (famous French gossip magazine) about Serge Gainsbourg's fashion style , and Jane explains how she inspired him in his choices....

Apparently, she was so desperate after her failed marriage with John Barry that she felt lucky that someone like Serge got interested in her. I have never seen a pic of Barry (I think he was much older than her also when they married...) but Jane has always been with genius (Barry, Gainsbourg, Doillon) and her 3 daughters seem to have inherited good genes as I think they are all very talented in their own way.

I've just bought the new album: "Monsieur Gainsbourg revisited" and it's really a great one. The covers of Gainsbourg's songs are amazing. Jane has done one with Franz Ferdinand and there are also other artists such as Feist, the Kills, Brian Molko, Françoise Hardy, the Rakes, Jarvis Cocker or Portishead. The songs are very different from the originals but for those English-speaking people who don't know Gainsbourg's songs it's a nice way to start knowing him!!!
