The Couturettes
Inspiration: The Cockettes

I think this edit is genius. The photography is excellent and they translate the overall look of the Cockettes quite well on the girls. Very dramatic and completely fitting with the couture pieces. I also like how the fonts and graphic design used are reminiscent of the 1960s psychedelic arts and/or in the style of old magazines from that era.

Stardust
Inspiration: David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust era)
Bio: David Bowie (born David Robert Jones on 8 January 1947) is an English singer, songwriter, actor, multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and audio engineer. Although he released an album and numerous singles earlier, David Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in the autumn of 1969, when his space-age mini-melodrama "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK singles chart. After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam-rock era as a flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, spearheaded by the hit single "Starman" and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. The relatively short-lived Ziggy persona epitomised a career often marked by musical innovation, reinvention and striking visual presentation. [wiki]

An Angel in New York City
The Inspiration:
The 1987 film
Der Himmel über Berlin (Wings of Desire) by Wim Wenders
There are angels on the streets of Berlin. The film centers around the story of two angels wandering in a mixture of post-war and modern Berlin. Invisible to humans, they nevertheless give their help and comfort to all the lonely and depressed souls they meet. Finally, after many centuries, one of the angels becomes unhappy with his immortal state and wishes to become human in order to experience the joys of everyday life. He meets a circus acrobat and finds in her the fulfillment of all his mortal desires. He also discovers that he is not alone in making this cross over, and that a purely spiritual experience is not enough to satisfy anyone.

The Million Dollar Dress
The Inspiration:
Audrey Hepurn in the 1961 Academy Award winning film Breakfast at Tiffany's
Breakfast at Tiffany's is a daily ritual for Holly Golightly, a social butterfly who hosts parties, entertains drunken men, and dreams of owning a horse farm in Mexico. When Paul Varjak (George Peppard) moves into a neighboring apartment -- courtesy of his rich patroness -- he is instantly enchanted by the ditzy, sweet-natured Holly. But for all Holly's fun, Paul starts to realize that all is not well with her. She's desperate to marry rich, visits a notorious gangster, and hides that she was an illiterate teen bride. As Holly's life starts to deteriorate, Paul sets out to show her what her life will be like without real love.

^Absolutely brilliant MMA! Natalie is the right girl to embody Audrey, so many young actresses are compared to Ms. Hepburn but I think Natalie just has something about her - a certain spirit that just reminds me of Audrey.

La bordélique, thats so genius! I love the Bowie spread. I'd been looking for something that referenced him. His fashions are always so innovative but they were especially memorable during his glam rock Ziggy Stardust years. Ann-Catherine look so much like him in those!

Portrait of a Lady
The Inspiration: Dovima
Dorothy Virginia Margaret Juba, born December 11th 1927 and later known as Dorothy Horan best known as Dovima, was one of the supermodels of the 1950s. Born in New York City, Dovima was discovered by an editor at Vogue on the sidewalk of New York, and had a photo shoot with Irving Penn the following day. She worked closely with Richard Avedon, whose photograph of her in a floor-length black evening gown with circus elephants—"Dovima with the Elephants" —taken at the Cirque d'hiver, Paris, in August 1955, has become an icon. The dress was the first evening dress designed for Christian Dior by his new assistant, Yves Saint Laurent. A supermodel before the term became widely known, Dovima was reputed to be the highest-paid model of her time. She had a cameo role as an empty-headed fashion model with a Jackson Heights whine in Funny Face. She died of liver caner on May 3, 1990. After her death, Richard Avedon said, "She was the last of the great elegant, aristocratic beauties... the most remarkable and unconventional beauty of her time."

'50s Flashback
The Inspiration: Kim Novak
Marilyn Pauline Novak was born February 13th 1933 and is a Roman Catholic of Czech descent. Novak's blonde good looks won her a contract with Columbia, and she debuted in two films in 1954. She quickly became a popular star, and her liaisons with Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant, and Sammy Davis Jr. added to her cachet. Her strongest acting performances came opposite Jimmy Stewart in Hitchcock's Vertigo (1953) and Bell, Book, and Candle (1958). Her career faded somewhat in the 1960s. Most recently she appeared in the 1986–87 season of the TV series Falcon Crest. She also appeared in Mike Figgis's Liebestraum (1991). She is married to Dr. Robert Malloy and lives in Oregon.

I just discovered this thread...oh goodness....thanks guys!

The last case - Amber and Kim - is kind of a strange combo. It's clearly inspired by Novak, but Kim had that content cat look - cat that just lapped up a full plate of cream - can't see much of that in Amber...AT ALL.

How fantastic - I would never have thought of Dovima, but when you pointed it out, Kristen looks just like her there.
