i watched her in Gone with the wind only, but i really love her in it, i love her as Melanie Hamilton, Melanie by Olivia is far more beautiful than what i imagine from the novel
thanks a lot for starting this thread, lucyinthesky and for the beautiful pictures you posted.love the last one.she was a great and classy actress ,loved her especially in "a midsummernight´s dream" but also in errol flynn movies like "robin hood" (what a beautful marian she was) and as the counterpart to bette davis´elizabeth 1 in the private lives of elizabeth and essex.i found her a bit too sappy in gone with the wind, but that´s what the role demanded,so she did a great job anyway.i also love her sister joan fontaine....(btw marilyn monroe was a great admirer of olivia de havillland too)

Yay, a thread for Olivia! She is one of my favourite actresses -- I adore her performance as Melanie in GWTW (I prefer it to Vivien Leigh's Scarlett, actually - not that I don't love her or her character too ) and she was absolutely riveting in The Heiress with Monty Clift.
She's one of my favourite actresses too I recently saw 'The snake pit', and Olivia is so great in it. She was also a very beautiful lady, especially in the 30's.
I hated her character in gone with the wind when i was younger. I loved Scarlett's lively spirit and hated Melanie's sickening sweetness. While i've never seen any of her movies (The Heiress sounds good though!) because of her Melanie role I thought of her as a peace keeper goodie-two-shoes type. So i was very surprised to read that she hated her sister and they had a really bad relationship.
