Just watched the Great Escape and the Thomas Crown Affair - he definitely earned the "king of Cool" nickname. Charming, cocky with rugged all-american good looks! I can't wait to watch more of his films - next up Bullit and The Towering Inferno!
Try to find a copy of "The Getaway" too, one of my favorites... And Ali McGraw was so damned hot in it- it is no surprise they both wrecked their marriages over it- you can see the dripping passion between them!!

Oh i just watched ´´the getaway´´ and i loved it. this guy was so hot!!!
^^ I'm so glad that you got to see it and enjoyed it!! And The Thomas Crown Affair is one of my two or three favorite movies of all time!! I love especially, other than Faye Dunaway in it, how the entire story comes together in the last two minutes!!! Just a great movie!!
Thanks Boomer!!! I'm ordering the Getaway and Papillon off of Amazon! Have you watched The Sand Pebbles? I received it for Christmas but haven't had the chance to check it out, just curious about ppl's thoughts? I also finished reading Neile McQueen's memoir about her life with Steve (entitle "My Husband, my friend") - i would highly recommend this book to any McQueen fan or anyone looking for a good read. This book provides amazing insight into his life on and off the screen and i could not tear myself away!

Yes! I read it- I always kind of felt a little sorry for her- she seemed like a nice woman and Steve was a rough guy to love, I'm sure... I saw Sand Pebbles a while ago and it is a very good movie (8 Golden Globe nominations and 8 Oscar nominations, as I recall) but rough at the finish... There will never be another Thomas Crown or Bullitt- I guess I was at an age where those characters meant a lot me when I first got to see them...
Also, if you can find a copy, there was a book called "Steve McQueen: Star on Wheels" way back, and even though it was more of a fan paperback talking a lot about his racing, there are some amazing details about him making the movies- a very good read (that you may be able to find dirt cheap on the net) !
McQueen was great and a Man's Man as an actor. Loved him in the Great Escape, Bullit, and Thomas Crown Affair had many firsts. If you have not listened to the Director's Commentary on TCA it is definitely interesting
^ Yes, it was very interesting how they did not want him for the film- they thought he was too unpolished and macho to play a Boston Blue Blood...Very good job- he was totally convincing! I still love that movie- and I still want his Rolls Royce Coupe and the Town House on Beacon Hill...and Vicky...
