I'm writing an article for my school newspaper about fashion on TV, and I hope to include ANTM in my article.

My question for you is, what first attracted you to the show, and what influence/impact do you think it has had on you/the fashion world? Do you think ANTM can be considered among the most influential fashion-related tv shows?

Hm, I first became attracted to the show after casually flipping through channels and coming across it. It was during C5, and I was pretty young. I had barely ever seen reality television before that point (aside from American Idol, at least), so I found the whole setup of the show (ie. the elimination process, photoshoots, etc) really novel and interesting. I initially thought the photoshoots were extremely intriguing, as I had never really been exposed to the fashion world before. I always loved art, but this was something new, in terms of art, for me. As the cycles progressed, I became more interested in seeing the girls and just how much model potential some of them had. I began to develop my own definitions of what makes a model through the show.
Unfortunately, it is now a huge, huge, huge trainwreck. I don't even like watching it anymore. I simply watch it for the fact that it's something to kind of look forward to on Wednesday nights. I think most people in the actual industry see it for exactly what it is -- a piece of campy fluff that intends to do no more than entertain. It seems to have become the guilty pleasure of a lot of people, including myself. It has definitely had quite a lot of influence, but that's moreso in the way the general public perceives the fashion world--most see it as ANTM meets The Devil Wears Prada.
