Black Models At The 2009 Shows
Since VOGUE Italia's decision to use only black models in their July issue, there seems to have been a knock on effect: US VOGUE is rumoured to be fighting with VOGUE Italia over Jourdan Dunn; new face Arlenis has met with Anna Wintour and been shot for US and Italia VOGUEs; and now when I checked the hideous Dior Cruise 2009 collection I spotted a whopping total of 4 black models .

OK so the cast was big with almost 50 models. However in the 2008 show Dior used only 2 black models (Alek & Chanel), but in the 2009 show which just took place you can see Alek, Chanel, Jourdan and Arlenis!

I'm sure other shows will follow this trend since US and Italia VOGUEs are backing it.

Please share other examples you see of the re-emergence of black models on the runway

A very good step in the right direction.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I think Jourdan looks best - so graceful

Arlenis looks lost, she isn't even looking up properly! I'm bored of her really.

I thought that Jourdan looked vacant but still pretty. I thought Alek looked bad at the show but I still thought she was one of the most feminine despite the lack of hairage.

Jourdan is aloof not vacant :p it gives the impression she is too cool to care about anything. Reminds me of Snejana.

I wonder if any of them will do Chanel? When was the last time a black model did Chanel?

But she's looking straight into the camera

Anywho...it's sad that we have to have a thread like this, but at least it means that things might already be changing which is a good thing and I am glad that we are monitoring it. Something is afoot.

^ to me it I see her looking towards the bottom right side of my screen - anyway no big deal there is some time yet until the biggest shows. I'm sure her confidence will improve by then.

It's a definite trend

There are about 4 black models at the Oscar de la Renta cruise show! Arlenis, Jourdan, Chanel and Marie Fuema.

Seems Arlenis, Jourdan and Chanel are a new trinity, of sorts
