Well, this is a little off topic but the story has been cropping up in newspapers and magazines all over the place...

American Apparel made its name a few years ago on the West Coast for selling sweatshop free tshirts, undies and knockoff Converse sneakers. LA hipsters loved the skinny fit, soft cotton and high ideals. Then there were the ads, the Jane article... Business Week ("Living on the edge at American Apparel" and now NYTimes ("His way meets a highway called court" chiming in on the culture Dov Charney promotes at the store --

Hannah Rappleye, an 18-year-old sophomore at New School University who worked as a sales associate in an American Apparel store in New York for about three months this year, said she had no complaints and left her job on her own volition last May. But she said she would never seek to work at American Apparel again.

Mr. Charney's first words to her during one of his visits, she said, were "You look hot today." And when she expressed her objections to a sexually explicit picture on a store wall, her colleagues laughed it off, she said.

"At first they make you feel special," Ms. Rappleye said. "If you were chosen to work for the company, that meant that you were attractive enough to sell sex successfully."

"But after a while," she said, "it feels disgusting."

Why am I posting this in Eurasian Beauties? If you've ever visited the store or glanced at the ads, they're filled with mixed people. Benetton makes a similar effort, but the softcore/hardcore angle of the photos American Apparel peddles are a different sight. Well, Dov clearly has a soft spot for the hapa honeys? Check out the website, American Apparel , or browse the galleries .. It's pervy a la Terry Richardson, just as a warning, heh.

So, this is the seedy side of pretty Eurasian people. It's a shame. They're opening a store in Baltimore, and the people would be fun to work with --- there are horror stories galore though. Trumped up?
