great look, great complexion. thanks for that post!

wayne sterling of models.com and theimagist.com is jamaican, and went back earlier this year. had a really good post on his site about the model scene there (source - theimagist.com):

There are two things I've kept from my Christmas vacation in Jamaica . The first is the madness of the color everywhere. High colors in cold northern cities don't make sense and don't resonate a sense of "graphic sophistication" like the restrictive use of black/white/grey does. But those bright, bright colors jammed up against each other under that hot tropical sun sure does wake a jaded eye up!

The second thing I took back from Jamaica is the odd beauty of the kids there. So thin, so etched and always- whatever the complexion- this glistening skin that money cannot buy. I think they are brilliant. Or to use my favorite new word, I think they are legendary. I'm using "legendary" as a form of inverted slang , as in, "so-new-and-brilliant-for-me-personally-I'm very-emotionally-moved-by-him/her/it" .

I think that is brilliant that all these pretty Jamaican girls and boys are hell bent on being international models. My pal Dewight Peters who owns an agency in Jamaica called Saint International sent me a snap of one of his kids against this very vivid green wall.

I said " Dewight. Shoot each and every of your boys and girls up against all those green and yellow and blue walls. Keep that as you agency's visual signature, because next time I fly down, I'll bring down a pile of labels and style them for a edit on TI".

Dewight sent me the pictures as a casting reference and then I thought..."Well damn...How do I top this for the edit? These kids ARE the story" I love the ambition and drive in their eyes. I can tell they do want to be legendary. In the most classic sense of the expression.

I agree what happened,it wasn't always this way?! BTW,the cover reminds me of the Vanity Fair feature(I believe it was for VF or GQ) for those VS girls.

yeah omifan, the last time i tried was for the "black girls rule" issue, and there are a couple of big newsstands here that used to carry it but don't anymore. the guy at one of the newsstands thought trace had gone out of business, but the mag is obviously still going strong. oh well - may have to try and get it online. such a great cover!
