I dont know if this belongs here... But I did not think it was enough of a topic started to have it's own thread...
I'm not an 'Uber model' like naomi, liya, chanel iman et al... But I have been modelling for about three years now, I have regulary walked at various on schedule LFW shows, have had editorial etc... Basically, I am one of the thousands of other models on the books of top agencies, who work regularly, make enough money to do it full time, but aren't a household (or fashion junkie recognisable) name. Here's my question, I find (especially during fashion week), that when I go for castings I am the only black girl there... I know the other 'black' models in town, just because we're sooo few... And so constantly going for the same jobs. Today I went for a casting, and the director gave me info to go to another casting somewhere on the opposite side of town where they are 'booking black models'... Why is this an issue? I know naomi has been talking about having problems, but if naomi has problems... What about the rest of us? Everyone keeps talking about eating disorders... What about diversity on the runaway (and i dont mean using the same group five girls ALL the time), what can be done by me, us... Or the industry in generaL? Does anyone have any insight? Or advice for me even? |
