I think part of the reason heroin chic became so popular was because people could relate to it. It's hard for many peopl to relate to the whole perfect supermodel, glamour girl look. Heroin chic was just more realistic.
Trainspotting is one of my favorite movies, maybe that's why I like this time in fashion so much.
Does anyone have any pictures of Gia? When I think heroic chic, she's the first model that comes to mind.

Here is another good Gia site: http://www.gia-carangi.com/
Most of the time I think Gia looked pretty healthy, and not so pale and emaciated like the other "heroin-chic" models. Gia was before the whole grunge era though, so it didn't affect her.

nowadays, the modeling industry has taken a turn once again.
they're loving the 33inch hip girls..and they love models to be pin-thin
i know it sounds horrible..but most clients seem to feel this way
it makes the clothes look better..in their opinion

Jessica Stam has a bit of a heroin chic look in this photoL

I'm undecided about heroin chic. It simultaneously repulses and attracts me, and that conflict makes it all the more powerful. Very few models can pull it off without looking forced. Imo, there are two types of heroin chic: the vacant, vegetable look epitomized by Kate Moss, and, at the other extreme, the intense, feverish expression of somebody on the edge. They share a gritty surface, but convey such different moods. Kate Moss's brand of heroin chic is flat and grey like death, while the other form is morbidly vibrant because it is the expression of somebody who is too alive in a way.

i don't think kate moss initiated "heroin chic" at all. the look calls for not only being really thin, but having the dark circles round the eyes, looking strung out, and ill. kate was really thin, but had NONE of the last three qualities in any editorial or advertisement. the only one i can think of was the 1993 uk vogue ed where she was in lingerie and it was blamed for pedophelia, but corrine day said that she was upset over a huge fight with her boyfriend that day, so that's why she looked sad.
when i think "heroin chic," i think mid-nineties eds and runway with jodi kidd and amy wesson.

It was mentioned earlier, but I agree that Jamie King was probably the ultimate in heroin chic, because she actually did heroin. Kate, as we all know by now, preferes the powder to the syringe...
