How models think about modeling
Codie Young's point of view:
Quote:
it is a really strange job. One I wouldnít pick for anyone. But guess you never really know where life will take you...
Do you enjoy being a model?what are the pros and cons for you?
-Yes and no. I like that I get the opportunity to live in London with people I love. I have meet some truly incredible people. It can also set you up for life if your smart about money. And I have got to travel to some amazing places. But I can find it hard sometimes because I am a creative person. By this I mean Iím going to shoot and make someone elseís vision become a reality and I donít get an important into it. Your not there to add your ideas your there to wear clothes. Sometimes you get some input but not very often. Your there to do what your told to do. And I get really frustrated with that because I like to do what I want. There are also some people in the industry who arenít very nice people. I wish I could ask for time off with out feeling bad or being told its risking you could miss out on a great job etc. people can be very judgement on us, they see a photo of us or a video or whatever it might be and think its ok to judge us and say things that arenít nice about us. But we are people and there is a 80% chance we will read it or have someone else who finds it send it two us. And itís not a nice thing to have a stranger who knows nothing about you say hurtful things. But at the end of the day itís like any job there is good and bad that comes with it.

What would you like to tell to all the girls out there who's wish is to become a model?
I think that if you really want to do it, you should absolutely go for it. However, you have stay conscious of the fact that sometimes people can be hurtful and that it can be hard not to take things personally. You've got to stay strong, not let the negativity take a hold of you and realize that sometimes people are not thinking about you as a person. You should work hard to be the best model that you can be, but only within HEALTHY reason. With that, you should model as long as you enjoy it and make it a great career.

Going back into modeling after taking a break from it, do you think or feel differently about it then you did before?
ďI think that taking time off has provided me with a new-found appreciation of the job that I didnít completely have before. I started working at fifteen and experienced a pretty great amount of success right off the bat. I loved the job and took the responsibilities very seriously but in that process, I stopped allowing myself to be a regular kid. The time off that I took was instrumental in my development of my self-worth without defining myself by the job. Iím excited to get back into it with a really supportive team, a couple more years of experience under my belt, and an ambition to make the best of all of it.Ē

I admire Daria Werbowy's perspective on modeling:

I've had a lot of mixed feelings about what I do ... A lot of the time, I feel like I'm part of the problem when it comes to all the superficiality and vanity that impacts the way girls grow up.
Fashion Magazine, September 2008

At least she recognizes the problem.

The real way I became a mode is I won a genetic lottery and i'm the recipient of a legacy.

Saying that you want to be a model when you grow up, is like to saying that you want to win the Powerball when you grow up.

I have learned and continue to learn so many things from my job. It is an industry where you have to grow up quickly, you have to learn how to communicate with people much older and with much more experience than you. That can be a difficult thing, but it is nevertheless a very important skill set. The travelling and the congregation of girls from various backgrounds and countries brings to light different cultures and ideas which is extremely eye-opening.

IMA: You’re part of a new group of promising models to emerge from Russia including Sasha Luss, Nastya Kusakina, and Katya Riabinkina. Is modeling something that you had always aspired to and what advice would you offer to other young girls in Russia who are considering a career in modelling?
AM: My advice would be to just try it (modelling). If it doesn't work out, don't waste your time or else push yourself to go further!"

When I started modelling I was much more nervous and I found it quite overwhelming. I was surrounded by great people. There weren't any dodgy moments but it's a lot to get your head around when you're young. I fell into modelling; I wanted to go to art school. I wasn't born camera-ready, I was actually quite camera-shy, and I had long hair that I would hide behind. I had to go through a process of learning to be comfortable in front of a camera - you have to become a canvas for other people's ideas. As I've got older I'm more comfortable in myself and I understand that I'm playing a role that's not necessarily Lily.
