^ I hadn't heard this, however she is with Next in Paris, London and Milan so the move wouldn't be terribly shocking. Marilyn has done fantastic things for her though so if she did switch I'm guessing Next NY offered a nice gift..

Huh, she was with Marilyn Paris this past season.

So it's safe to confirm now that she's with Next NY.

Interesting on Marilyn's part now.

She is on the Next NY website as well as the Marilyn NY website.

Interesting considering how much Next cries when other agencies take their girls. Marilyn will no doubt be the classy one.. and continue to scout and build stars like they do..

Lily Donaldson, Caroline Trentini, etc etc..

Hailey to Next, the same agency which is suing Ford for stealing its models? Hailey moving to Next just as her career is catching fire just like Karlie moved to Next after Elite invested in developing her career; and Kendra Spears moved to Next after Ford invested in her development; and Agnete moved to Next after Ford made the investment in developing her?
Do we see a pattern? Or just coincidence? Maybe, all these girls just were unhappy with their agencies just as the work by the agencies were starting to pay off? Yeah, that must be it.

According to the pattern that you mentioned, Imogen Morris Clarke & Tali Lennox might be Next "found pieces" as well.

I can't believe they keep poaching girls like this. It's sort of classless on behalf of NEXT, you'd think all the pending lawsuits against Next for their previous antics would make them stop but they just keep doing it. I only hope Hailey's career doesn't suffer because of this. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

What does poaching exactly mean?? Agencies that poach a model from another, how do they do that? Pay the model? Do they email the model?
just curious

Poaching is just a casual term meaning that an agency scalped a girl from another usually using some sort of financial lure or career promises.
It can happen in many ways and it's usually with a girl who is a hot commodity.
Most high fashion models get stopped on the street all the time. But in this case it's when someone from another agency recognizes that model from whatever buzz she generates and basically "scouts" her--giving her his/her card and saying to come in or email them and set up an appointment to talk etc. It can happen on the street or sometimes agents are hanging around backstage at a show or shoot. Or it can happen when a girl is out getting dinner, at a casting etc.

The top agencies are competitive and once a girl gets a certain amount of buzz--everyone is literally watching especially the bookers.

But not all of the switches on this thread are considered "poaching." A lot of times models actively seek changing agencies (and sometimes if a girl has a lot of very close friends at an agency, like Next, then she gets her contacts and perspective through her friends). So in Hailey's case, we're not sure if it's really poaching or if she was unhappy with Marilyn and shopped around or if her mother agency decided that switching was for the best.

Another case of getting in touch with models would be if a girl came in to see that agency but got rejected and ended up with another agency. If she generates a lot of buzz, that other agency might want her now and pull out her info sheet and give her or her mother agency a call.

Some of the big agencies (like IMG) have "chaperones" who follow the girls during fashion week. Even though they're supposedly backstage to give their agency's girls support, they give out their card to girls and try to get them to switch/come in to talk etc.

^ Thankyou so much theBlueRider!!
Wow. still so confusing! if a girl signed to an agency Marilyn, for example in Hailey's case, wouldnt Marilyn hear from someone that she went/met with Next and be mad(can't find another word to describe)? sketch, and wouldn't it be a huge risk to go meet next? (risk in general)

If a girl signed to a top agency and got blue chip buzz and eventually met with another agency and decided to switch (with her new contract signed, the agency/or her/or her mother agency already preparing to terminate the old contract), it all happens within a matter of a few days and very casually so. There aren't any "spies" lingering around the agencies' offices. The only people who would know during the process would be the model, her family, her mother agency (if she has one), the new agency and her closest friends...

Of course the old agencies are mad. But people who work in agencies aren't happy people deep down (sorry to say to anyone...). Don't believe the interviews you read on the internet. Bookers get mad all the time--if a girl doesn't show up on time, if a girl gets dropped from a booking, if a girl doesn't get a booking, if a girl breaks out, if a girl can't get a good photo. But yes, if the star of a board leaves then profanities will be heard at the table but they move on with the next girl they're pushing to be a star...

For the tfs community, it's a big deal because tfs members watch every model's move like a hawk and read about the industry with rose colored glasses. But it's not that big of a deal when you're actually in the industry. This is normal and it happens all the time. Agent loyalty is an old tradition written on the walls but every model knows (or should know) that at the end of the day (especially in this age) a model is in it for her career and the booker is in it for the money.
It's not about loyalty. If a model believes that she can do a lot better, make more money or whatever, then she has appropriate interest to switch. It's not "risky" or "sketch". If a model is happy with how hard the booker is working and managing at the optimum level then she has reason to stay. It's a business and you gotta do what you gotta do.

Also, last note: agencies aren't there to look out for the girls in their best interest. There's no such thing as this "special relationship" between a booker and a model where the booker is truly pleased in the deepest of their heart to watch a model develop and grow up into a woman--sorry, but that's BS played up for the media. There's an incentive for everything.

interesting post tBR. I have teeny little question though: If a model switches agencies, her bookers also move with her or does she start with someone new? Are bookers and agents the same thing?

In some situations the booker leaves the agency first then the model follows.
But with the majority of switches, the model gets someone new--thus the switch.

Bookers and agents are the same thing. Manager is different.
I could go on and go on but "agent" isn't really used colloquially in the industry anymore because most "agencies" aren't actually "agencies" but management companies. But I use it because it's easier for tfs community to understand that way...
