There is such a big contrast between how her friends and family describe her, and the feeling that come from what she wrote...

Camera loved 'Russian Rapunzel' from first shoot, photographer says
BY VERONIKA BELENKAYA and CORKY SIEMASZKO
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS
Tuesday, July 1st 2008, 2:06 AM
Boris Brul Ruslana Korshunova was discovered in 2003 at age 15 after a model scout saw her picture in a magazine on a flight to Moscow. For more pics of Korshunova's first photo shoot, click image.

She peers out of the foliage, her chestnut hair cascading in waves down to her knees, her face enchanting - like something out of a fairy tale.
Ruslana Korshunova was 15 and this was her first time in the hands of a professional photographer.
"She was very innocent, a complete child," said photographer Boris Brul, who took the shots that appear exclusively in the Daily News. "She had a child's gaze. There was spark in her eyes."
Those jungle-themed photographs for an inflight magazine would be Korshunova's ticket out of Almaty, Kazakhstan. The teenage beauty who would soon grace the covers of fashion magazines and strut with confidence down catwalks around the world was "like clay" on her first shoot.
"She didn't know how to hold herself in front of the camera," Brul said.
The photographer said that as he snapped frame after frame of Korshunova in a botanical garden, the young schoolgirl blossomed into a supermodel before his eyes.
"You could do anything with her," Brul told The News. "It was easy to work with her. And her hair, her hair was so long. I think it was all the way down to her knee."
That hair earned her the nickname "Russian Rapunzel" in the fashion business. Korshunova's meteoric rise in the fashion world ended in tragedy Saturday when she plunged nine floors from her luxury Manhattan apartment to her death - ruled a suicide by officials.
When Korshunova posed for the first time in 2003, she was an 11th-grader and her big dream was to study in Germany. The head of the German club at her school thought she might also make a good model for a photo spread for the magazine she ran outside of school, All Asia.
Her mother, Valentina Kutenkova, was not happy about her daughter's detour into modeling, but not overly concerned - at first.
Then talent scout Tatyana Cherednikova saw the magazine with Korshunova's pictures on a flight to Moscow and set out to find the green-eyed girl with the long chestnut hair. Kutenkova was skeptical when Cherednikova arrived in Almaty determined to sign her daughter to a modeling contract.
"I called her mother, her mother was not happy about it," said Tatyana Nalivaiko, an art director who was at Korshunova's first modeling shoot and interceded on Cherednikova's behalf.
"She said she needs to study. She's still little. There was constant distrust in her voice."
Kutenkova believed her daughter would be better off sticking to her studies, instead of relying on her looks. Quoting a Russian proverb, she said, "Better to have a bird in the hand than a flock in the sky."
"She didn't believe there would be a future in it," Brul said. "Ruslana wanted to do it. She was saying to her, "Mom, 'We gotta try. I'll go once. I'll try.'" Reluctantly, Kutenkova accompanied her comely daughter to London, where they met with photographers and more agency honchos - and Korshunova's supermodeling career was launched.
That November, London model hunter Debbie Jones came to Moscow, where Cherednikova showed her Korshunova's photo spread.
"They loved Ruslana," Cherednikova said.
Close friend Dinara Bogaoutdinova said Korshunova and her mother "had a great relationship. She always said her mother is her best friend." She was especially close to her mother and brother Ruslan, because her dad died when she was 6. "Until she came to Paris, she never washed her hair," Cherednikova said. "Her mother did it for her."

Oh I seriously teared up when reading some of this. I can relate to her ideas of love, but I wish there would have been someone to cheer her up and tell her that these feelings would pass. Like she said, it does take away some of your soul's strength, but you become even stronger when the pain passes. I wonder why she didn't seek help, she must have been feeling so awful.. Not necessarily with psychologists or something, but I wish she'd had discussed her feelings with her mom.
Now it's all too late..

It makes me so sad to see all these photos I've never seen before only now that she's gone.

CAUGHT IN A LOVE TRIANGLE

BEAUS' RIVALRY OVER SUICIDE MODEL

By ERIN CALABRESE, JOE MOLLICA and ERIC LENKOWITZ

TRAGIC:Ruslana Korshunova, who leaped to her death Saturday, at Fashion Week last year. Her mom, Valentina , arrives at JFK yesterday.

Last updated: 7:24 am
July 1, 2008

The mother of tragic model Ruslana Korshunova arrived from Kazakhstan yesterday and encountered what may have been the greatest source of her daughter's angst - the two men who claim she was in love with them.
Valentina Korshunova came to identify the body of her daughter, who authorities said jumped to her death from her downtown apartment building on Water Street Saturday afternoon.
She was greeted with hugs and tears by relatives and the two loves of the model's short life - her ex-boyfriend, Artem Perchenok, and latest flame, Mark Kaminsky.
The two rivals were the last to hear from the 20-year-old stunner before she died.
Both claimed that they were going to celebrate her 21st birthday, which would have been tomorrow, with her.
And each insists that he was the one she wanted to be with.
"This is like a dream. We keep thinking we'll wake up," said Perchenok, who greeted Ruslana's mom with a hug.
Kaminsky rode with the mother to the Medical Examiner's Office, with Perchenok in a trailing vehicle.
"I was her first love," Perchenok said, showing a Post reporter a fresh tattoo of Ruslana's name in Russian that he had gotten on the inside of his wrist Sunday night.
Kaminsky was the last person to speak with Ruslana.
The details of that conversation - less than eight hours after Perchenok left her at the house early Saturday after a long night together - remain unclear.
Perchenok said that when they got to the building at around 4:45 a.m., there was a short pause, and then she kissed him and said, "It's nice to see you again."
He said she called him less than a minute after going upstairs to say she still had his sweatshirt.
"I will get it the next time I see you," he told her.
Perchenok and Ruslana split up last October - a breakup he blames on the stress of her modeling career.
She started dating Kaminsky a few months ago, but Perchenok claims it was not smooth sailing for the new couple.
Perchenok said she was going to spend her 21st birthday with him in the city and then possibly go to Atlantic City.
But Kaminsky said she was planning to go camping with him in Pennsylvania.
"She always was with me," Kaminsky said Sunday outside Ruslana's building. "We never spoke about Artem."
But Perchenok called his relationship with the runway star "a fairy tale" and was convinced they would get back together.
One of Ruslana's pals said she was stressed about her love life.
"She was always searching for love," he said via e-mail from Russia. "I used to say to her never search for love. The love will find you."
Another friend told The Post by e-mail that Ruslana had yet another boyfriend in Kazakhstan.
