New York City Shopping

Am travelling to NY solo for a day on Thursday. Any recommendations for fun and fashion? Also where can i get some great deals on clothes and perfumes?

This is a kind of shot in the dark, but does anyone know the name of the store that buys previous season merchandise and then sells it at a lower rate? It's a smaller boutique and opened up a year or two ago. I can't remember exactly where it was located - maybe Lower East Side / Soho / Chinatown area, but it was definitely downtown. And the name was just one word. Ahhhh, I need to know!

I'm going to New York next year.. I'll only have one day for shopping - what stores can't I miss out on? Mostly stores with a lower price range, I wont be going to Chanel or anything like that

I'm going to check out Barney's, Bess and Topshop... What other stores would you guys recommend?

Also, any restaurants and lunch places?

I've been looking for thrift/vintage stores everywhere and only found one by union square. I've even done google searches and can't seem to find any which I think is a bit ridiculous in NYC. Can anyone tell me where I can find any?

Hey all. I'm going to NYC and I need to buy an evening gown while I'm there.
I'm talking fancy, beaded, etc. etc. I don't really care about what season they are or anything. I just want a really gorgeous gown.
So far the only place I can think to go is the big department stores. Barneys, Saks etc. Can anyone recommend any other places? Would I have better luck in smaller stores? PLease help.

you're probably thinking of INVENT.ORY? http://www.inventorynyc.com . not always last season, but kind of an outlet store for independent designers. basically the best place in the universe. they have like, $20 cheap mondays. (also, they have a cool blog.)
