Most Important Campaigns for a Model

Ok, I pose this question:

Which 5 fashion/perfume campaigns do you think are most important in terms of visibility as well as respect within the fashion industry? There are tonnes of designers but I think there are only a few really important campaigns that can make a model... IMO anyway. Here's my 5, I'd love to here everyone else's...

1. Prada
2. Gucci
3. Chanel
4. Dior
5. *Any Calvin Klein Perfume*

Ok, prada coz it seems to launch ANY model who appears in the campaign eg. Sasha and Snejana. Gucci is absolutely everywhere and tends to confirm a models luxury status. Chanel coz everyone will see it. Dior, same reason as chanel and it will add the cool factor to a models career and CK perfume coz they are EVERYWHERE

I agree 100% with your list. For the same reasons. A prada campaign will make your rate go up higly since so many big models have never modelled for prada OR even miu miu. Gucci because it is so heavily advertised, and chanel and dior for your same reasons.

Gucci makes new models into instant stars. (i.e. Solange)

Prada is the campaign that creates the bonavide stars... Amber Valletta, Carolyn Murphy, Angela Lindvall, Daria Werbowy, Elise Crombez, Gemma Ward...

Prada definitely. It's made instant stars out of Sasha and Snejana and also made stars of Gemma, Daria and Elise.

I agree that Prada has a good track record for their models - recently. But there are examples of models who seem to have gone down after big campaigns. Natasha Poly was as hot as she could be in January 2005 but the lacklustre Gucci campaign really killed the hype. And Isabeli's not-so-great Chanel campaign FW04 didn't do anything for her career. So it all depends on how well they carry it off. It's a great chance - but they've got to take it or they may suffer a back lash. Of course, Isabeli and Natasha are both such beautiful and great models that they're not over...but those particular campaigns didn't do them that much good I don't think, except from a short term economic perspective.

The most important (I'm not so sure about the order, these are basically all extraordinarily important campaigns):

1. Dior
2. Chanel
3. CK
4. Anything by Steven Meisel that looks amazing (and that he likes)
5. Anything by M&M that is great (and they really like)
6. Prada
7. Gucci
8. YSL

That's a good point by iluvjeisa. A big campaign can be harmful to a career if it isn't done well :(

Its funny now I look at the campaigns this year and my minds probably changed a bit. My list is basically the same but i'd have to scrap gucci.. it just doesnt have that pull that previous seasons have had. I think Hermes is up there at the moment, as is Burberry, Dolce and Gabbana and Balenciaga. :flower:

The campaigns that really show that you have 'arrived' are the more mainstream ones. That shows that you are so famous that the brands that make the big BIG bucks are willing to invest in you.

--->Top Campaigns to Show that You've Made It<---
1. Any cosmetic (Maybelline, Rimmel, Revlon, Cover Girl ect)
2. Victoria's Secret
3. Jones New York
4. TIE Anne Klein/ Liz Claiborn/Anne Taylor
5. TIE Express/Fendi

---> Top Campaigns for New Faces <---
1. Calvin Klein (Kate, Gemma, Natalia...the results speak for themselves)
2. Prada (Everyone seems to start out there, don't they?)
3. Dior (If your in with Meisel, you are in with all of the fashion industry)
4. DKNY (The greatest career start up campaign, hands down)
5. Chanel (VERY exclusive!)

Dolce & Gabanna

Dolce and Gabbana is a great campaign to be in, but they usually use so many models its easy to get lost in the crowd.

I'd go with the original list.. its pretty good: Prada and Gucci really know how to turn and unknown into a star. Calvin Klein, Dior and Chanel are great, but they usually use already established models. With the recent successes of Pilati at YSL, Ghesquiere at Balenciaga and Elbaz at Lanvin, I also think those campaigns (although not as heavily advertized) are quite ads to get for up and coming models.. as are Jil Sander and Miu Miu (but Prada doesn't seem to be using models for that line anymore). And also Chloe, wasnt' Felicity Gilbert rumoured to be in their ad campaigns for Spring, eventhough she didn't appear in them in the end, she's now a model to watch.

is prada more picky than others? for example.. making a point of not using a big model because she doesn't fit the image.

style_expert 29-04-2006 05:48 AM

^ definitely. Prada only wants the newest (and most of the times unknown) faces and not faces that are overused already.

true but it cant explain why sasha has done it for three seasons in a row.

style_expert 29-04-2006 12:44 PM

^ I can't explain it but it makes sense because Sasha has never done any other campaign but Prada. She's probably 'exclusive' enough and I think she is a recognisable face for Prada, especially because she's doing it for 3 seasons now.
