Adele

Quote:

“Just out of school, with only a handful of songs and clutch of acoustic solo shows under her belt, south London singer/songwriter Adele is already making waves. Accompanying herself on guitar or piano Adele’s smoke filled voice falls somewhere between Dusty Springfield and Jill Scott, combined with the glottal stops of Billy Bragg.” - Marmalade Magazine

Adele

She's a 19 year old from the UK predicted for big things next year..i love her voice. It kind of reminds me of Amy Winehouse

Here's her single 'Home town glory' (the only non live version i could find)

her myspace here

She's great indeed, hence there already being a thread on her. ;)

I love adele! She has some great songs, and i hope that she soon gets the recognition she deserves! Cant wait to hear more of her stuff...so want her to release an album soon!

I just heard one of her songs on Capital last week and loved it. Plus she's from Brixton which is right next to where I live in South London so she's got my support. Hometown Glory is such a wonderful ode to London.

okay I think i'm going to be the main poster in this thread! Has anyone else here heard chasing pavements? I believe thats going to be coming out as a single on jan. 21st as a lead off from her album. She's actually performing in London at the end of January which i just found today on her myspace and it's already sold out! I was on her myspace two weeks ago and it wasn't even listed! Anway my boyfriend and mine's 1 year anniversary is the same weekend as the gig so maybe get tickets off ebay and make a quick trip over for our anniversary and the gig!

here's a link to where you can here the song live on Jonathan Ross. She sounds better live than on cd, amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3eZWX9N2ws

edit: oh wow, didn't realize it would put the youtube video right into my post! excellent! just click play!

Amywilliams 17-12-2007 05:06 AM

I saw that on the night - she was amazing!
Cant wait for the album, chasing pavements is so good! Would love to go to the gig too, i may be tempted to have a peek on ebay for some tix!

I have been reading so many things about how adele is being hotly tipped to make it big in 08! So i really hope this is the year for her1

kanita 28-01-2008 08:50 PM

Well, she's been mentioned on perezhilton.com, so the myspace friend count has risen considerably, and her soon to be released (and already leaked album :ninja:) has gotten some good reviews.

I'm not too fond of her new single, but the album sounds lovely.

A visual of the album cover;

(I now see her single is 2nd place in the UK charts, so yeah I guess she's going to be big news for this year)

Meg 28-01-2008 11:27 PM

yeah I don't want her to get overexposed but i think it's too late. :ninja: plus I heard her on the radio and she actually had an incredibly annoying South London voice, I was a bit surprised. Anyway i still think she'd be amazing live but the tickets which originally cost 12.50 are going for 70 pounds a pair on ebay so no dice....

retailqueen 09-02-2008 11:25 AM

bump...

This girl is going to blow up this year...
i don't know if this is a good thing; i really used to like amy but her overexposure slowly turned me off...

Anyways Adele's voice is awesome not forced; her music is good , but she still has space for growth

Well she won the BBC's Sound of 2008 poll by industry insiders and critics. Given that these days that poll has become a self-fulfilling prophecy it is on the verge of losing any credibility it may have had. Look out for Jo Whiley banging on about Adele ad nauseum for the rest of the year.

This isn't a criticism of Adele by the way, just the surrounding hype.

James1057 09-02-2008 05:22 PM

i heard of her a few weeks ago and i must say i love her stuff!

adorefaith 31-03-2008 05:02 AM

love chasing pavements...hope she's not overexposed [or has that happened already.?]...
