It's important to have a love for fashion if you want to be a Market Editor because you literally will be surrounded by clothes and shoes all day, every day. It's a market editor's job to know exactly what each brand is showing for each season. The fashion biz work one season ahead of time; In the middle of fall, we're checking out trends for spring of the next year. To see what is out there, market editors go to fashion shows (New York, Milan and Paris are the big ones), to showrooms where the new lines are on display, or to presentations (like a show but the models don't walk a runway). Designers also mail out lookbooks- a collection of photographs of everything is in their latest collection. By the end of the season, we have hundreds of these lookbooks, and each one must be cataloged and filed, with key looks notes for future stories.
