The best way I can describe it is that it's almost as if you were going to say "murrrr" but you don't actually let your tongue reach the palate to form the "rrr", so you get more of a "muhhh" sound, but still with that hint of the impending "r". There's really no direct English equivalent of this sound, unfortunately...it's probably some clever tactic of my Dutch ancestors to confuse invading armies.
