In some respects, the collaboration does anger me quite a bit.....but I think using the word "angry" is a bit over-reactive. I think a better word to use would be...I'm dis-illusioned....and dis-enchanted.

Many old-school followers of Margiela....including myself.....would have loved to see Margiela remain independent from a corporate company such as Diesel. It would have been great to see Margielas company prosper...without becoming incredibly commercial.

But, as I look about the world....and the state of it's affairs (back in 2004 and now)....it almost seems like it would have been impossible to remain independant from commercialism.

Fashion.....and it's designers....are NOT the only industry that is feeling the financial economic downfall. Small business are closing shop.....car industries are going bankrupt....oil prices keep escalating, etc etc.

Companies such as H&M...Target....Walmart, etc....all have the financial means to support many other companies who are unavoidably....on the decline. The aforementioned companies are considered to be..."middle-market." They are not high-end retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, or Saks Fifth Avenue.....but.....they are also not low-market stores such as The Salvation Army or The Goodwill. Basically...they are all companies where the majority of the population.....middle-America....can buy a slice of a dream. These are companies that tend to earn massive earnings, financially. They are also companies that are globally popular. They offer smaller companies a great podium... where ANY failing fashion designer can earn profits to survive. It also helps them to be able to continue forward with their own independent label.

It's a catch-22.

ANY company that is failing today.....would almost kill to stay alive....and the means in which they will go about doing so....is almost limitless. If it means selling out...or destroying the integrity of a brand...they will do so, by all possible means.

It's a matter or survival...and turning profits.....like it, or not.

As many others on this post have quoted..."if you don't like it...or approve of it....don't buy it"....and I respectfully agree with them.

There ARE pieces from the collaboration with H&M that I do like. A few of them I do intend to scout for and purchase, personally. I intend to wear the H&M pieces....WITH...original MMM pieces that I have bought in the past, too.

I am merely one drop of water....in an ocean.

To say that I REFUSE to buy anything for this collaboration.....based upon a brands integrity or esthetic....is truly pretentious.

Simply by refusal to purchase these pieces...do I assume myself so egotistical...or so important...to even think I can personally stop the future's state of affairs?? Nope. I don't. Do I think I'm being a traitor to a designer who I once loved...simply by buying pieces from a company that doesn't share the same esthetic as Margiela once did?? Again, no....I don't.
