I always hit up Metro Park for Joe's Jeans. I like walking into random stores. I got some really cute shoes at oh crap, I don't remember the store's name. Elyse Sewell just did their ad campaign though, oh shoot! I'll remember.
Juliet, I don't want to throw haphazardly into a business venture but in my humble opinion i think with the right marketing a boutique with m by mj, etc would work.. maybe as long as you had some lower priced things as well?
