I was raised in the Christian tradition, very fundamentalist, and was required to have long hair and dress a certain way, although never to the degree I see many Muslim women dress. Today I do not have long hair & fairly frequently dress in a way that would not be approved by the people I grew up with (although no one in my family still abides by those rules either). Based on this it bothers me to see women/girls doing things I think may not be their choice, so I always appreciate hearing discussions like this that remind me that many times it is your choice, for a variety of reasons.
