I'd say it's not very popular in Japan, although discovering new things by studying the past is one of their usual practice.
most people don't even know of golem etc.
but apparently there is room for little labels with that kind of aesthetic to be active on a small scale.

I think it has been noticeable since about the mid 90's when some people earnestly started searching for the insecure charm that the products almost like the incarnation of prometheus (or apollo) have lost, which CdG A/W 04 might trigger.
