I have some brilliant web sites for all those that want to knit. One of the best (and most famous) is

They have a great message board and everyone arranges to me in various pubs or cafe's in London for a good "Stitch and Bitch" session. Last one I went to this really nice lady taught me how to do all kinds of things. One meeting was held on the Circle Line (London Underground) Everyone went around and around all afternoon chating and eating home made brownies and muffins and drinking coffee from thermoses.
Another great site is
www.knitty.com This site has loads of free and easy patterns. The knitted uterus is my favourite.
You're right about wanting to do more stuff. I'm trying to work on a pair of mittens. I got a little tired with scarves and square things!
