Great review, thanks MissMagAddict.
Prada's revenge does make me mull over some of the ridiculous outfits we've seen on runways through the years (especially the transparent tops and dresses FOR FALL no less!). I assumed the models were always too highly paid and enjoyed the exhibitionism of it all to complain outright.
I can understand the plight for hype and free publicity from the designer's point of view but the world wide audience also plays into the "emperor's clothing" syndrome by treating FASHION as a spectator sport for the most part. Everyone is a natural critic but rarely with a proactive remark.
Life outside Boombox or the like is really rather plain, conservative, uber-casual and in the case of fashionistas, BLACK, BLACK BLACK.
Pretty regimented really.
The glib remark about rock n' roll is easy enough to say but again difficult to negate.
Music is one of culture's main catalyst. It is what subcultures and hence looks grow out of and the main focus in our post-war world.
Rock and pop has only been around for 50 yrs. That is not much in the scope of history. In that period we have morphed into many forms of tribes, each with it's own agenda and stance. Much more than in the previous 50,100 or 500 yrs...
None has saved the world from itself, only reacted to it.
Unless a new form of music comes out of the ether (or socio-politico event), we will be condemned to revisiting past forms of our culture be it in music, clothing and the graphic arts.
That is the curse of RETRO.
