I like Cavalli. Both the man and his designs. To me he seems to be a modern incarnation of Nero, Caligula or even Elagabalus. It's that same decadent, intoxicating and heady aesthetic. Cavalli is, without a doubt, a lot to take in. His artwork is hard to appreciate completly. It's because there's no subtlety to it. Everything simply hangs out, far too easily presented. His clothes are sexually exciting. I think there's a genius to that. It's all so apparent and visible. He seems to extract an escapist eastern fantasy and somehow preserve it. I feel the viewer should take him for exactly what he is selling; a shallow, hedonistic appreciation of luxury and the flesh.
Just think how exciting his illict world must be. Or atleast the image of one.
