the Fashion Spot member protocol:

I got a nice PM from a new member who specifically asked about tFS "protocol" which I thought was a very good subject to talk about with someone who is new, so I wanted to share it here, too. Some of it has already been coverd above, but there is some important things that need to be emphasized:

Quote:
I suggest that you start by familiarizing yourself with all of our complex rules here. They are probably a lot different than most other forums, but we've found that each rule has made the forums friendlier, more viewer friendly and a more interesting place to be. And we enforce them ... so you might as well learn them.

Theres 3 places you should start with:

Community Rules (linked at the bottom of every forum page). We have an unusual rule about no "weight talk" ... pay attention to that. There's a thread about how that came about and member feedback in the Member Support forum, if you are interested.

Announcements Forum ... where details and updates about some of the rules are posted. We have a few important theads in there about how to credit your sources, our "no self promo" policy, where not to host your images (we have banned a few hosting sites due to porn) and other things like this. If you have a blog or a business site, you need to pay especial attention to the "no self promo" information, because we are very strict about that.

Member Support & Feedback Forum ... where there are threads about various topics about how to use all the functions on tFS and where you can ask questions to get clarifications on each subject. Here, you will learn about all kinds of technical stuff like how to attach images, how to host them elsewhere, how to search, how to start a new thread (you must do a search first ... we usually have an ongoing thread about your topic), about our karma feature, subscribing to threads, email notifications, and dozens of other functions. Also, it's here that you can see discussions about policy changes ... like the no weight talk rule and the banning of hosting sites that featured porn. We often seek member feedback when considering a rule change.

Lastly, some of our forums and some threads have specific rules. Forum rules are pinned near the top of each forum ... sometimes they are called "ettiquette" threads or say something like "Must Read!". A few threads that tend to have problems with off topic issues or that have special instructions may have rules too. If a thread has rules, it will be noted in the title, saying something like Please Read Post #1.

Beyond this, we encourage our members to particiapte and contribute more than just to post mindless chatter (power posting/empty posting). We love to see interesting conversations with various members bringing information and their opinions to the discussion ... we love positive debate. Members may disagree with each other, as long as they do it respectfully, never insutling other members or thier opinons.

Learn to use our seach function ... we are so huge that you will miss too much if you don't use it. To narrow down your results, which can be in the hundreds, make sure you search by thread titles. We have a general search function and a more advanced one on the top nav bar. If you are already in a forum you may drop down to the lower nav bar and search only that forum ... and if you are in a thread you may search posts in it the same way; the lower nav bar. Be aware that your search keywords must be at least 3 letters or the system won't recognize them at all. But, to help make up for that ... we have added a google search at the very bottom of the page which does recognize smaller works ... but it's not as detailed.
