i'm sure it's ridiculously simple to fix but how to i completely clear out my Inbox?

Even after I hit "Empty Folder" it still says it's 98% full

" Inbox contains 0 messages.
You have 49 messages stored, of a total 50 allowed. (Empty Folder)"
