Zooey Deschanel's sitcom, 'New Girl,' starts with big ratings; 'Glee' dips
Quote:
Zooey Deschanel's "New Girl" opened strong Tuesday night on the tube, while the third season premiere of "Glee" hit a sour ratings note.
"Glee" attracted 8.9 million viewers Tuesday, a 32% drop from last fall's hyped second season premiere, ew.com reports.
Fox's "New Girl," starring indie film darling Deschanel, opened with about 10 million viewers, USA Today reports. The quirky show was created by "No Strings Attached" writer Liz Meriwether, a former Michigander and daughter of former Free Press publisher Heath Meriwether.
CBS's returning "NCIS" (19.5 million) and "NCIS: LA" (16.7 million) both made strong showings, and Poppy Montgomery's new procedural, "Unforgettable," scored 14 million viewers and won its 10 p.m. time slot.
ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" -- which sent its first dancing star home Tuesday (that would be Metta World Peace, the NBA player formerly known as Ron Artest) -- drew 14.5 million viewers, a 36% drop from its first results show last fall.
