“I am completely obsessed with Kate Moss,” declares 19-year-old Jessica Gomes. As a fresh-faced beauty from Perth and the newest young model to hit the catwalk scene, Gomes has some strong opinions about style. For instance, you’ll never find her in velvet, corduroy or anything “too commercial”. “I prefer to look exotic rather than wear what everyone else is wearing,” she says. “I like to bring out the Portuguese in me.” Her eclectic style can be described as “bohemian chic” – a mix of flowing dresses, vibrant colours and vintage accessories. And where does she find such things? In her new hometown of New York. While her favourite label is currently Baby Phat (she loves their cut-off denims and hip-hop feel), she favours home-grown labels Tsubi, Camilla and Marc, and Sass & Bide. Gomes’s must-have items include waist belts (“they make your body look great”), funky cut-off shorts and the classic fragrance Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel. Why? Because it is worn by Kate Moss, of course.
