DESIGNERS & COLLECTIONS POSTING ETIQUETTE [PART ONE]:

Threads for new collections may not be started until at least 1 clear runway, presentation or lookbook picture becomes available. However, when posting from a set of official runway pictures (ex: vogue.com, nowfashion, etc.) please be sure to wait and post a minimal of 4 pictures from the collection. Our goal is not timeliness, but rather completeness.

This means that the following is not acceptable to start a thread:

  • Blurry pictures that do not clearly show the collection do not suffice to start a new thread. The clothes, or parts of the presentation (such as accessories, pictures of the designer's bow, shoes, or other close-ups) must be clearly visible at all times in the first picture.
  • Backstage pictures are also not allowed as the first picture of a thread, unless they show the models fully dressed and made-up for the show.
  • Quotes or comments on shows and collections via Twitter or any other source are not enough to start a thread.
Example: The following is not an acceptable image to start a thread (too blurry, not any detail of the garment):

CHOOSING A NEW THREAD TITLE:

  • Please use correct titles when you want to make a thread on a show. Which means F/W 2012.13 or for couture S/S 2012. All other variations will be edited to match this guideline.
  • When you post a show from the menswear collections, please include this in the title. The correct addition to the titles is 'Menswear'. All other variations will be edited to match this guideline.
  • When you post a show from the Haute Couture collections, please include this in the title.
  • When posting a show/collection from the pre-season fashion weeks: please make sure that all Resort/Cruise/Pre-Spring collections are all labeled as Resort (or Cruise where applicable), and that the year is listed for next spring. Pre-Fall collections should be labeled that way, and the year should be listed as the current year.
  • When you post a show from the womenswear fashion weeks, this does not need to be added to the title.
  • Always add the city to the title where the show was held.
For example, you want to create a thread for Dolce & Gabbana mens. The one and only correct title will be:
Dolce & Gabbana Menswear F/W 2006.07 Milan

If you want to create a thread for Chanel couture:
Chanel Haute Couture S/S 2006 Paris

And to create a thread for a pre-season collection:
Lanvin Pre-Fall 2009 or Lanvin Resort 2010

For any other RTW show it will be:
Donna Karan F/W 2006.07 New York

GUIDELINES FOR ANY DESIGNERS WISHING TO START A THREAD FOR THEIR LINE:

These are the requirements for designers wishing to have their own topic in Designers and Collections;
  • Your work should be in production.
  • Your designs should be sold somewhere other than a website or online store (a boutique, dept. store or your own namesake shop are all acceptable).
  • T-Shirt/ Street Wear companies do not qualify.
  • Please, post images within the thread for our members to see, because it encourages discussion but do not post any links to your site. You may not invite anyone to view your site and you may not use this thread for promoting your line, your site or your retail store.
Please note, any designer who wishes to have a topic about their work should contact one of the D&C moderators to provide the information we require before starting a thread.

The following is not allowed in D&C:
  • You may not post links to their own sites in posts, nor try to direct traffic to that site.
  • Unless your collection is presented during one of the international fashion weeks every season, please do not create a new topic for each seasonal collection that comes out. Please keep it all organized in one specific thread.
  • You may not try to make any sales on tFS.
  • You may not have a site logo as an avatar.
  • Excessive posts of any type that are clearly for the purpose of self promotion are considered to be spam and will be removed.

GUIDELINES FOR POSTING IMAGES:

Please avoid Hotlinking:

"Hotlinking" means copying the URL of a picture from an external site instead of uploading the image to an image hosting site.

We all want to see pictures, not red X's. We usually lose images from sites when a member has directly "hotlinked" to them, and the site has deleted them to move on to new subjects.

We would like to remind all members that hotlinking is not good "netiquette" and is not welcomed here or by the sites whose images are being hotlinked. When you hotlink from a site, you are using their bandwidth. Each time someone loads the image you hotlink, that uses the originating site's bandwidth. This costs them money. Additionally, many sites delete images or change their links after a short time, causing your hotlinked images to disappear.

Moderators will edit or delete posts with dead links when we find them, and on occasion, will delete images that are hotlinked and deemed to be using too much bandwidth from the other site.

Instead of hotlinking, please take advantage of the attachments feature or use an image hosting site. More information about these options can be found in the Member Support & Feedback thread: ttp://forums.thefashionspot.com/f44/

Please keep the following in mind, regarding hotlinking:

  • Pictures from yahoo.com expire after a certain period of time. If you do not want them to disappear from the thread, you might want to post them as an attachment or via an online picture sharer.
  • Same goes for pictures from nymag.com and style.it .. they expire as well..
  • Pictures from GettyImages will not show up via hotlinking most of the time. In order to avoid this, see above.
  • Never hotlink from Twitter or Twitpic. The pictures will mostly not show up.
  • In addition, we have received a complaint from nowfashion.com and they have stated that they will soon be blocking the images so that they don't show up here.
  • Never hotlink from catwalking.com. Viewing these pictures will require a log-in. Members without an account will be unable to view the entire page of the thread.
Crediting:
  • Always credit the pictures you post. Photo crediting is the professional thing to do, its good manners to give credit where credit is due.
All images that are not properly credited will have to be removed. What constitutes proper crediting read here
  • Please be advised that simply posting 'Yahoo' is not sufficient crediting.
As you probably know we do not allow 'Google' or 'Google Image Search' as credit, and by the same token cannot allow 'Yahoo'.
If you have gathered the pictures form Yahoo News, you must list that as your credit.
Reader-friendly posting:
  • Separate posted images with a space or a break to avoid endless long horizontal lines of pictures which makes the page format very difficult to view.
  • When you post pictures, try not to post more pictures than about 6 in each post. This way it is easier for members to read and review the threads.
  • Please post medium-sized images instead of thumbnails when posting collections, unless they are high-resolution images, so that members do not have to click after click each thumbnail to see the picture. Images should be approximately 800 to 1000 pixels to fit the page well.
  • Resize images that are too large to fit the site layout. Images should be approximately 800 to 1000 pixels wide.
  • For High Quality Images, it is best to use thumbnails.
  • Do not "quote" pictures. If you quote someone's post, do not forget to remove the images from it. Please keep in mind that Reposts - do not help our bandwidth draw, at all.
  • Competitive behavior is discouraged and is considered Power Posting, which is not allowed. Examples: If you just posted some pictures and a minute later you find new ones, please do not add them to your post. In popular threads this could lead to double-posts and competitive behavior. Instead, post them in a new post. Do not rush to be the first to post new pictures. Doing so will result in too many posting errors. We prefer quality over quantity.
On Topic / Off Topic in Collections Threads:
  • Please keep conversation about the collection.
  • Do not post pics of the front row or celebrities at the shows. Photos and discussions about celebrities should be posted in StarStyle if it's about fashion or in In The News... if it's about anything personal.
  • Do not discuss the presence/absence of a certain model. Model talk belongs in Supporting Cast.
  • Any Off Topic Discussion or photos will be deleted.
