The Art of Layering

soft . . .
i was just going to mention babydoll tops / empire waists
are actually ideal for layering under shorter cropped tops

Normally with layering I put a big voluminous top under a smaller cropped one. That way the big volume bit stand out.

yes-ok curious...
guilty as charged...that is definitely one of my signatures......

i'm glad you like the pic helena...
still looking around for more...
am actually more interested in how to do this for fall/winter since that is where we are now...

i'm looking for good colours to layer under black...
white is so OBVIOUS...*yawn*
so i'm thinking...
grey
navy blue
purple

softgrey - what about stone ...nice under black no? quite classy looking imo.

stone?...isn't that grey?...

please ...can you post an example?...

thx-:flower:

Agree with FFF, more like fawn.

I don't think it suits non-blondes.

soft . . .
black + purple / royal blue / navy / emerald / pistachio / any shade of grey

I'd say stone was more a midway point between beige and grey...

i like the pistachio suggestion chanel...thx...:flower:
very nice and a bit unusual...

khaki is green is it not? dunno where I would find an example.....let me look.

sorry, this isn't really a 'winter look' is it? but, a virtuoso take on layering - even the pants are layered! I like how the layers look so fragile

...Though light and dark shades of one colour seem to work very nicely together...
I love this too while we're on the subject of colors :flower: Examples:

- lilac/aubergine
- camel/chocolate
- baby blue/navy
- celery/forest green
- etc.,etc...

helena...so a cool grey then?...

thanks poc...:flower:
i remember going through that whole nonsense in the early 80's about the difference btw olive and khaki...it really depends where you are...
but it has finally been completely accepted in the US that khaki and olive drab are not one and the same and it has alleviated a whole slew of confusion...

Great topic, thanks for posting!

I have quite a few Rozae Nichols lace and silk tops that I like to layer over 3/4 length white tees to keep them from looking too "precious". I also like empire/babydoll tops over long tanks and tees. It's a great way to transition from summer to fall. I'll try to take some pics.

Don't know if this is any help at all, but I just want to share the fact that I discovered the joys of layering two cashmere sweaters in one outfit last year...not only is it very warm, it also looks darn tootin cool :woot: I'll usually wear a thick cardigan over a thinner crewneck, maybe a collared shirt underneath. HOO-AH!

i've been experimenting a bit in my closet...
anyone else notice that this can get kind of expensive?...

i mean...
you need 2-3 tops to layer which means it costs 2-3 times more than just one...

...
