Ecco Domani's new winners revealed
Tuesday, January 02, 2007
(NEW YORK) Thanks to Ecco Domani’s Fashion Foundation, six emerging designers are starting off 2007 on a high note.
The women’s wear recipients of this year’s sixth-annual awards are Angel Chang, Erin Fetherston, Naum by Waleed Khairzada and Julia Jentzsch, Sans by Lika Volkova and Alessandro DeVito, and Tom Scott; Patrik Ervell is the sole menswear recipient. Each label will receive a $25,000 grant to help showcase their collection at Fashion Week in New York next month.
The six winners were chosen from the more than 100 designers from across the U.S. who applied. To be eligible, entrants must be in the design business for no longer than five years and have a minimum of one retail account. In addition to references, applicants are required to submit look books and/or photographs of their work. From the initial pool of applicants, 25 semi-finalists were chosen, then evaluated on samples of their most recent ready-to-wear women’s and men’s collections. From this talented group, the judges voted on the final six.
Throughout the years, Ecco Domani has helped launch the careers of some of today’s most fashion-forward and sought after designers, including Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler’s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, Peter Som, Thakoon Panichgul, Doo-Ri Chung, Derek Lam, Brian Reyes, and Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy.
This year’s women’s design category winners were selected by a distinguished committee of fashion insiders, including Marylou Luther, editor at International Fashion Syndicate; Sally Singer, fashion news/features director at Vogue; Kim Hastreiter, editor-in-chief and publisher of Paper; Julie Gilhart, Barneys New York’s vice president of fashion merchandising; Ruth Finley, publisher of The Fashion Calendar; and Nicole Fischelis, vice president and women’s fashion director at Macy’s. The men’s category committee included Madeline Weeks, GQ fashion director; Jay Bell, buyer for menswear design at Barneys, and Armand Limnander, senior editor of T, The New York Times Style Magazine.
“The success of EDFF is undeniably due to the outstanding judging panel and their remarkable ability to identify the future stars of fashion,” said David Bowman, marketing director for Ecco Domani wines, in a statement. “We are proud to have seen so many past EDFF alumni go on to successful, lucrative fashion careers. We congratulate this year’s winners, who join this elite group of fashion visionaries.”
