This year’s awards, scheduled for June 15, could well get a presidential touch. The CFDA is honoring First Lady Michelle Obama, who has made a mark on the fashion industry with her style choices and penchant for young, up-and-coming talent, with this year’s Board of Director’s Special Tribute.

Marc Jacobs will receive the International Award for his work at Louis Vuitton, and Anna Sui will be given the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Women’s Wear Daily editor in chief Edward Nardoza will receive the Eugenia Sheppard Award, and Jim Moore, creative director of GQ magazine, is being honored with the Eleanor Lambert Award.

After seven years at the New York Public Library, the 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards will this year move to Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. The awards ceremony will take place at the venue’s theater space, followed by a dinner in the theater lobby. Swarovski, which feted the nominees with the CFDA board at a party at Rockefeller Center’s Rooftop Gardens on Monday, is underwriting the awards.

Jason must get the Swarovski Award , since Michelle is presenting the prize.
I really hope Rodarte get it......and Italo Zucchelli get the menswear.....
and MJ get the Acc, I mean he got prize every year so...

Funny, I was just starting to wonder who would be nominated for the CFDA awards this year!!! This seems like a long time coming for Kate and Laura! I'm also rooting for Jack and Lazaro!!

Narciso Rodriguez? Why?

Personally I think he's been at the top of his game for a few seasons now. Doesn't hurt that his recent endorsement from Michelle Obama has validated his work which hasn't been as well received with customers as it could have been. I'm rooting for Narciso, he's one of the few American masters IMHO.

Rad Hourani is based out of Montreal, not sure if he's eligible although is talented. Matthew, who I LOVE, has only recently started showing in NYC this season. He needs a couple more collections in the American market to get their interest going.

wat a coincidence all the emerging womenwear talents are asian!

i didn't think about that mutter regarding rad. but i must correct you on matthew...he has actually shown in NY a couple seasons ago and he is based primarily in brooklyn. i dunno why not he but jason wu can...i mean jason isn't exactly well-established yet either in spite of the hype of his dressing first lady obama. but i do think because vogue is a major partner in cfda and matthew has voiced an avoidance in becoming part of some hype run machine anna w. tends to generate,maybe he's not really their cuppa,anyway.

Predictable as always:ninja: MJ, Narcisco, Proenza blah blah
What about Ohne Titel, Matthew Ames, Patrik Rzepski..???

im not pleased at all, the only thing they got right is thakoon

I bet Jason Wu will win that Swarovski thing...Because of Michelle Obama thing...But I think A.Wang is better than Jason..Just dunno why :}

Yeah i think Jason Wu will win but not because hes te best of the bunch, A Wang just got a lot of exposure over the past two seasons and is considered more high fashion than the rest but i wouldnt think hes CFDA material.

Oh yeah, he's done presentations here in NYC a couple years back. When I was at the show I got the impression this was a new sort of thing for him, it certainly is his first proper runway show here or anywhere else. It would be strange for him to be picked up by CDFA. But like you said, I don't think he's their kind of designer...yet. I'm going to give it a few seasons before people really start noticing.

What's Calvin Klein doing on the list? He has done absolutely nothing for men's wear during the recent 3 years.
