It was amusing but forgettable IMO. Something I wouldn't necessarily turn off if it came on TV, but I wouldn't seek it out to watch again either.

I haven't seen 12 Years a Slave (though I've been anticipating it like mad and someone gave me a decent quality screener, I think I'll wait for the Blu-Ray), but I think it's annoying for people to cry racism just because the person you're rooting for didn't win. Jennifer Lawrence won because she's an A-list movie star on top of the world who gave a very good performance in a beloved, hit movie. Also, the voters are the Hollywood Foreign Press, who I assume are a racially diverse bunch themselves. I think it's important to think before we accuse people of something so awful. Not that anyone here is going overboard, but there's so much "omg! racist!!" on tumblr right now, even from people who have admitted to having seen neither performance! If the HFP is so racist, why did films about Mandela and Solomon Northup win awards and receive many more nominations to boot.



Favorite looks of the night were Emma Watson, Cate Blanchett, and Lupita Nyong'o, despite it's distracting similarity to Gwyneth's recent Tom Ford dress at the Oscars. Matthew McConaughey and Chris Hemsworth for the men (colored velvet tuxes <3). And I actually loved Julie Bowen's dress, but I find her a bit grating and unglamorous and wish someone else wore it.

Favorite looks for me are Cate and Lupita as well. Caitlin FitzGerald too was gorgeous - a very underrated gown. I quite liked Sandra Bullock's look too, weird as it was.
