Well, I went in thinking Punk Rose was a person.

Photographer Miranda Barnes photographs under-represented communities in America. We also examine the rise of the facelift — when to consider one, and who to trust — and in Shape Shifter, cult shoe designer Nina Christen reflects on her era-defining work for Loewe, Céline, The Row and Bottega Veneta, as she begins her new chapter at Dior.

Issue 2 arrives with a special dual cover: a 50/50 split between an exquisite punk rose by Nick Knight, complete with a black safety pin, and a striking beauty portrait of new face Ajus Samuel, captured by Dan Jackson with styling by Julia Sarr-Jamois and beauty by Lynsey Alexander.

I like both of the covers. It will be a hard pick at the newsstand. I am leaning towards the punk rose.

The first shot suits the 'flowery' font of the 72 - but the second one looks all wrong.

For something that proclaims "a new vision", it cuts off the side of the eyes, and sticks the 72 on top of one - the impact of the close-up is lost. Minimal cover text and yet the text still manages to exist in opposition to the image.

2nd covers is just average, it just has one (the flash, glitter, grain) of two certain aesthetics I swear every shot using South Sudanese girls used (and the other was feathers, flowers, dead posing, one color backdrop) at some point exclusively. The rose... it being from Nick Knight, I can't even believe it. It's not memorable, it looks like just what Pinterest will serve you after a pinning "inspirational" images every "art director" references now.

I didn't even hear that Edward launched his own magazine, seems it wasn't even big news at all because if it was based on my casual following until few months ago I'd know... Seems it's as dull as I except.

These just look right like i-D at time when Edward made it into fashion magazine first in late 90s, this look will be forever recycled I swear. Kind of vibe that 2001 issues had especially, when he returned as iirc he was away during part of 2000. These years of i-D are most referenced around too

Saying it when I have an old i-D issue opened right next to me lol

FUN FACT: With no back cover advertising again, when you purchase either one of the front covers with a barcode, you will get the second cover on the reverse side 😀 In other words, they are dual covers.
