Avatar is basically eye-candy with a sentimental story. James Cameron is apparently an arrogant jerk from many accounts and things read, but I have never met the guy, unlike an earlier poster. Anyhow, he's overrated as a director imo. For instance, The Titanic should've, er, sunk like Avatar did.

All nastiness aside, I am very happy for Kathryn Bigelow and "The Hurt Locker", although I agree with those who've commended "District 9," and I wish it would've won a little more or something, if even not best picture.

I also wish Carey Mulligan would've won for best actress; not that I have anything against Bullock and her endeavor into more serious drama, but I simply thought Mulligan's performance to be the better one.

OMG is Selma Hayek wearing McQueen? How cool. Love the Julianne Moore photo; she such a goddess, both on screen and off.

Well, not the first time she chooses something... daring?

Maria Bello is verging into nightgown territory with that dress, and clear plastic shoes? Ugh.

I am gushing on how beautiful Katherine Bigelow was at the Academy Awards :crush:... I am glad for the fact she won.. such an achievement for women.. even if you didn't like the movie and like Avatar you have to give props when they are due. Anthony Mackie, Colin Firth & Jeremy Renner looked handsome. Lauren Bacall.... Damn she's still beautiful . I am glad Sandra Bullock won the award, not because I thought she deserved it but because she's a great actress... Not a FAMEWHORE ... and I don't think she's ever going to get nominated for an Oscar again so glad that she got it when she could :innocent::wub:.

Ugh, this was soo boring, I swear I haven't seen a worse Academy Award show in my life.

Plus, just like Crash a couple of years ago, the Hurt Locker is such an irrelevant best picture win. I've seen it, it was a good movie and I've forgotten half of it again. And I'm pretty sure that in 20 years time, this film won't mean anything anymore.
The two pictures to win for that would have make sense were Avatar (yeah, go ahead, laugh at me) and Up In The Air, nothing else. Up In The Air is pure zeitgeist and nails what the year 2009 has been all about. Revisiting this picture in a few decades will still bring something interesting in terms of how society has evolved.
And Avatar is not only supreme in all technical aspects, it has a very cheesy, yet to me the most important message that a film can convey: That we're destroying the world we're living in.

And that Mo'Nique woman who gave yet another version of her touchy-wise-sentimental-teary speech. Come on! This is a bunch of freakin' actors voting and yet they still seem to think that it's only acting as long as you cry and shout for at least one time during your performance.

Only good thing was NPH.

wahwahwah

I started Work today, so couldnt be on hand to join in all the fashion fun with all of you! Thankyou so much to everyone for all the pictures and Fashion ID,s. YAY The Hurt Locker won! Katherine looked lovely!!

Maggie Gyllenhaal was absolutely gorgeous. Such a shame that she didn't won the Oscar.
