Portuguese born Manuel Arnaut started out his career at Vogue Portugal, he then moved onto Vogue’s sister company GQ Portugal. He has been at the head of Architectural Digest Middle East since its launch in 2015 and he took helm at Vogue Arabia after Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz's sudden departure in May 2017.

Vogue Arabia has been my biggest anticipated Vogue and the biggest disappointment.

Whether it’s adamancy or simply politics that a ME editor isn’t at the helm of this Vogue is the leading disappointment. Arabia could have—and easily would have been the most decadent Vogue had they bothered. That combination of unabashed decadence, exclusivity of a rarified world mixed with a culture’s conservatism that would have riled the feathers of Western sensibilities is the stuff of highest fashion worthiness. And the inaugural covershot with a Salome-esque bejewelled and veiled Gigi promised so much. But with Manuel’s appointment, it’s just another hollow British Vogue pandering to the PC-crowd and not the ME clientele who live by the brands being hustled by Vogue. So ironic that Vogues nowadays consistently ignore and dismiss the people that put the brands advertised in their page— and Vogues, in business.
