Finnish designer Tuomas Merikoski looked at midsummer in his native country, a time when sun never really sets and young people are partying with abandon, for Aalto’s first resort lineup. “A little apocalyptic” was how he explained the strange atmosphere of endless daylight.

He gave depth to casual classics — sweatshirts, blazers, cutoff denim — through interesting details. Sweats featured images of the Bohemian Waxwing bird. Textural knitwear had fringed sleeves and shoulders, and some sweaters were done in a splashy motif inspired by flames from a summer campfire. There was a quirky edge to the proportions. Extra-wide leg pants with deep front pleats that came rolled at the ankle and in a cropped denim culotte recalled Nineties raver style, while fleece dresses with asymmetrical hems worn with clogs channeled a laid back Scandinavian vibe.
