Some of the outfits are nothing short of bizarre, but I do like the direction the last dress goes.

I like those unique printed trench coats, I can see them being popular on the street

Some promising designs that could have been taken a little further. :flower:

I think a lot of those designs are fantastic!
American fashion has always been kinda "safe" and minimal.. or classic... this is so fresh and those students are bringing in a new view to American fashion.. I love it!

this is actually acad. of art in san fran which if i recall is directed by a former instructor at la cambre in bruxelles and also has had belgian designer crstof beaufays lecture. i think mcqueen also judged last year's grads as well. so it certainly has a dynamic enviroment compared with most school's in this country. finally there's more of a bode of inspiring american talents with great potential rather than the hit and more miss!!

I heard through the grapevine that most people at the Academy are not American, and the resulting designs are directly inspired by a vast cultural melting pot.

A few yawns here and there but there are def some potentials in those printed and draped pieces...I've seen that section about McQueen being the guest judge on FT a while back, Scott, good call

There's just something about student fashion I can't swallow...maybe because many of it seems as though it's trying to be avant garde.

I LOVE this, however-

I don't know if this is true. I'm a student at the Academy and most of my classmates are American. On the other hand, we do have people, of course, from other countries in my classes. But for my department, and my classmates that I've met in other departments, they're usually from the US.

I really like the very first dress shown. I generally think student fashion looks too boxy and structured, but this one looks more airy and fluid. Reminds me a bit of Yamamoto.

And the shoes with it are HAWWWWT!!! :woot:

There is some good stuff here, im thinking that if I didnt go in with the notion they were students some the clothes would have not told me so.

Don't think this is so safe. Mue showed in the April 2007 San Francisco show of Academy of Art University and later at the World of Wearable Art show in New Zealand.
